Brandon Sklenar has responded to the buzz about him potentially playing Batman in James Gunn’s upcoming DC Universe. While the actor who will play Batman hasn’t been announced yet, Sklenar has become a fan favorite for the role.
When Sklenar appeared on the Today Show recently, he addressed the rumors surrounding him with a joke. He said, “It would be a dream come true, wouldn’t it? I was working in Spain, and someone actually shouted ‘Batman!’ at me while I was walking down the street. It was a really strange experience.”
Some fans believe James Gunn’s positive comments about actor Anthony Sklenar’s work on the 1923 after-show podcast for Peacemaker might be a clue about a potential role. Sklenar has also been noticeably working out and building muscle, as seen in his Instagram posts. At 35 years old, he’s around the age Gunn has mentioned he’s looking for in his Batman, who is intended to be a bit older than David Corenswet’s Superman.
The next Batman film, titled The Brave and the Bold, will feature other members of the Batman universe, known as the Bat-Family. It will introduce Bruce Wayne’s son, Damian Wayne, as the new Robin, and center around the relationship between Batman and his son.
James Gunn and Peter Safran have made it clear that the DC Universe will feature just one Batman. This Batman will be a completely new take on the character, distinct from previous iterations like Ben Affleck’s Batman from the DC Extended Universe and Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which will exist separately as an ‘Elseworlds’ story.
Originally, Andy Muschietti was going to direct The Brave and the Bold movie, but production has been pushed back to avoid clashing with The Batman: Part II, which Matt Reeves is making. Andy’s sister, Barbara Muschietti, will help produce the film alongside James Gunn and Peter Safran, and they’ve already started working on the script.
DC fans are still buzzing about who will play Batman, especially as plans for the new DC Universe develop.
