Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio in Talks for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Sequel; Here’s What We Know

David Fincher plans to helm a sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with Brad Pitt potentially reprising his role as Cliff Booth. Fincher, famous for movies like Fight Club and Se7en, is stepping into the directorial shoes vacated by Tarantino, who wrote the script for this upcoming project. The movie is currently being crafted at Netflix, and there’s a possibility that filming could begin as early as late summer.

Based on The InSneider’s report, this upcoming movie isn’t a traditional sequel, but rather a spin-off that further explores the universe established in the original film. Quentin Tarantino has a special agreement with Sony that gives him control over some characters from the film, enabling this project to take place.

In the original movie, Leonardo DiCaprio portrayed Rick Dalton. Now, discussions are ongoing about him joining the new project, but it appears negotiations for his part are taking more time than anticipated. Rumor has it that DiCaprio is uncertain about agreeing to a role that seems to be relatively minor, as the storyline might primarily revolve around Brad Pitt’s character, Cliff Booth.

Nevertheless, Netflix is actively pursuing Leonardo DiCaprio’s participation, with discussions still in progress. It’s said that the streaming service shelled out approximately $20 million for Quentin Tarantino’s screenplay.

Netflix continues to work on getting Leo DiCaprio aboard, and talks are still happening. Reports suggest they paid a whopping $20 million for Quentin Tarantino’s script.

Brad Pitt and David Fincher share a rich history of fruitful partnerships, with their joint efforts evident in projects like Fight Club, Se7en, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Reports claim that Pitt showed significant interest in specific parts of Tarantino’s screenplay and enquired about the possibility of a different director assuming control over the project. Once Tarantino consented, Pitt introduced Fincher to the discussion, eventually resulting in Netflix acquiring the movie rights.

At first, Fincher had intended to focus on Bitterroot, a Western production, but set it aside temporarily to manage this current project. Moreover, he’s currently associated with the Netflix series, Squid Game, although its progress is still underway.

Originally, Quentin Tarantino intended The Movie Critic to be his last film number ten, but for the moment, that idea has been put on hold. On the other hand, Leonardo DiCaprio is currently discussing terms for another Netflix movie centered around Evel Knievel. However, it’s still unclear if this project will proceed as planned.
