An unexpected Hollywood pairing happened at a charity auction in Los Angeles when Brad Pitt and Emilia Clarke found themselves competing in a bidding war. The event, a fundraiser hosted by Sean Penn in January 2018, offered the chance to watch an episode of Game of Thrones with Clarke as the prize.
The event took place at Milk Studios as part of Penn’s yearly charity event to benefit Haiti. The auction raised money for the J/P Haitian Relief Organization and other programs helping with disaster recovery. Numerous celebrities were in attendance and participated in auctions throughout the evening.
A major highlight for guests was the opportunity to watch an episode of the hit HBO show alongside Emilia Clarke. This wasn’t a private date, but rather a prize in a public charity auction. Bidding for the experience reportedly started at $20,000.
Brad Pitt jumped into the auction right away. As a big fan of the show, he initially bid $80,000. Things got even more interesting when his co-star, Kit Harington, offered to join the viewing as well. Pitt then increased his bid to $120,000.
Despite making a higher bid, Brad Pitt wasn’t the winner. Another attendee ultimately won the experience with a final bid of $160,000. According to reports, Pitt stayed positive and involved throughout the auction, even after losing.
I was really excited to see so many famous faces at the fundraiser! Leonardo DiCaprio, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lena Dunham, and Jeff Bezos were all there. It was amazing! DiCaprio even participated in the art auction, and I heard he really wanted a painting by Josh Smith, but Arnold actually ended up winning the bid. It was a fun competition to watch!
Clarke shared on The Graham Norton Show that she spotted Pitt while they were bidding and thought the whole thing was funny.
Clarke shared that she donated her time to a charity auction, and was surprised to see Brad Pitt bidding on it. “I looked across the room and he was actually raising his paddle!” she said. Unfortunately, someone else ended up winning the bid.
The actress recalled the intense competition for the role as a moment she’ll never forget. She later described the experience as both surreal and thrilling, even saying it was the highlight of her life.
Although Brad Pitt wasn’t the winning bidder, the event was still a success. It raised millions of dollars for Haiti relief and demonstrated the strong support celebrities often provide to charitable causes.
Events like these demonstrate how fun and giving back to the community can go hand-in-hand. When celebrities participate in auctions for unique items or experiences, it draws more interest and helps raise significant funds for worthwhile charities.
