As a lifestyle expert with a deep-rooted passion for musicals and movies, I must say that the upcoming film “Wicked” has certainly piqued my interest. The camaraderie shown by the cast during their breaks from filming, singing songs from past musicals like Rent and Next to Normal, is not only endearing but also a testament to their shared love for music.
One of the most eagerly awaited films this year is “Wicked.” As the film’s release date draws closer, it was disclosed by Bowen Yang that during breaks, the entire cast would join together to perform songs from past musicals.
During an interview with People Magazine, it was shared by the actor playing Pfannee, that upon hearing ‘cut’, the entire crew would assemble together and harmoniously sing tunes from productions such as Rent and Next to Normal.
In an exciting turn of events for the forthcoming fantasy film, I’ll be gracing the screens alongside some exceptional talents. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have been cast in the lead roles, while Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, and Jeff Goldblum will bring their charisma to supporting roles. Michelle Yeoh will embody Madame Morrible, a character I’m particularly excited to portray from the source material. Jonathan Bailey steps into the role of Fiyero Tigelaar, while Ethan Slater takes on Boq. Lastly, Jeff Goldblum will captivate audiences as the Wizard in this magical journey we’re embarking on together.
As I watched the actor converse during their interview session, I couldn’t help but reflect on how different Cynthia appeared from her character, Elphaba. Yet, during breaks between scenes, it was heartening to witness her shed that aloofness and reserve, revealing a more relaxed side of herself.
Goldblum also mentioned that when he worked with Grade, they too would sing along to the tunes of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. The 72-year-old further disclosed, “We sang it together and then she recorded it on my phone. Goodness gracious above—it was simply magical, music, music, music.
Alongside the cast members breaking into song during breaks, it was also revealed that Yeoh’s character required her to sing in the movie. Interestingly, the actress admitted she can indeed sing, but considers herself more of a singing enthusiast who primarily sings in the shower.
The award-winning actor expressed, “I enjoy singing, usually it’s just in the privacy of my shower, not when others are present.” However, to play Madam Morrible convincingly, she had to improve her vocal skills. So, before filming began, she collaborated with a voice coach. She discovered that she could reach notes she never thought she’d attempt.
In the meantime, Wicked centers on a young woman who is frequently misjudged because of her green complexion. Upon attending an institution of learning, she encounters Grande, and their friendship blossoms throughout their shared experiences in time.
Wicked is set to release in theaters on November 22.
