Borderlands 4 release date pushed forward

Instead of the previously announced date of September 23, 2025, the much-anticipated release of Borderlands 4 has been moved up by a few days. As per a recent video statement from Gearbox co-founder Randy Pitchford, fans can now immerse themselves in the new shooter on September 12, 2025.

Regarding an optimal outcome, he mentioned they’re planning a State of Play event centered around the game, which was previously announced but no specific date was provided at that time.

It’s not usual for expensive video games to come out ahead of schedule, but the eleven days Borderlands 4 is being brought forward aren’t a significant amount of time. The last notable game to be released earlier than planned was Baldur’s Gate 3, which reduced its initial launch date by roughly a month to steer clear of Bethesda’s Starfield and avoid direct competition – this move turned out well for Larian Studios, particularly since they were already in Early Access.

In Borderlands 4, you’ll find the beloved blend of first-person shooter and role-playing game elements that fans adore. Gearbox aims to create a vast, interconnected world for exploration, introducing new tools such as grappling hooks to aid movement across the landscape. As always, players can opt for solo play or team up with friends in groups of four.

Borderlands 4 is set to come to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
