Borderlands 4 May Ditch Toilet Humor for a Darker Edge

As a die-hard Borderlands fan with countless hours spent looting, shooting, and laughing my way through the chaotic universe of Pandora, I eagerly await the arrival of Borderlands 4. While I’ve always appreciated the series’ humor, I must admit that some of the toilet humor in Borderlands 3 left me feeling a bit… overexposed.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but be thrilled by the promise of Borderlands 4! Known for its wildly diverse arsenal of weapons and uncensored, sometimes crass humor, this series has always kept me on my toes. Gearbox Software has confirmed that we can expect more of those infinitely varied loot drops in the upcoming game. But here’s a fun twist: there might be some tweaks to the game’s comedic style.

Sam Winkler, who oversees storytelling for Borderlands 4, recently shared his opinions regarding the humor in the previous game. During a social media exchange, someone asked if the darker vibe seen in the latest Borderlands 4 teaser trailer suggests a more somber tone and less crude jokes. Winkler stated that he is quite critical of the excessive bathroom humor found in Borderlands 3.

In a playful banter, another user suggested incorporating weapons with amusing names during peculiar tasks. Winkler responded: ‘I won’t guarantee the absence of toilets, but if the term “skibidi” appears in the game under my supervision, I’ll shed genuine tears.’ This implies that while some humor will persist, there might be a move towards reducing overly childish jokes.

Even though some comments suggest otherwise, it’s important to note that Borderlands 4 won’t completely lose its humorous elements. In fact, the Gearbox account playfully responded to Winkler’s remarks with “This is the stuff you tweet about while I’m out,” demonstrating that the series’ lighthearted tone remains alive within the development team.

As an ardent follower, I can’t delve deeply into the specifics of Borderlands 4 just yet, but I stand resolute in my critique regarding the excessive bathroom humor in Borderlands 3.
