Bong Joon-ho Confirms Progress On ‘Parasite’ TV Show: “The writing room of that show itself can be another TV show.”

The team responsible for HBO’s Parasite TV series is putting in a lot of effort, as stated by Bong Joon-ho, who is leading the project. In fact, he hinted that the writing process might be captivating enough to turn into a series in itself.

A few months prior to the Oscars victory of “Parasite”, it was disclosed that director Bong would collaborate with Adam McKay and HBO on a series inspired by his movie. Notably, McKay, famous for his work on “Succession”, mentioned that developments are moving swiftly in this project.

During the lockdown period, a writing group was established, with McKay and Bong mutually sketching out the series plan.

McKay made clear that this project won’t simply rehash the movie “Parasite,” but instead will offer a fresh tale occurring within the same universe as the original film. He expressed his profound gratitude for collaborating with Bong, stating that he considers it a true privilege to be part of such an enriching experience.

Back in 2020, Bong had expressed his intentions of developing a series based on the universe of “Parasite,” as he had ideas for themes that didn’t quite fit into the movie. He also hinted at having prepared stories for intriguing elements introduced in the film, such as the enigmatic housekeeper and her relationship with the bunker.

In my perspective as a film aficionado, I’m eagerly anticipating director Bong Joon-ho’s ambitious endeavor. Instead of a traditional movie, he’s opting for a limited series, meticulously crafted to span six hours. This innovative approach allows him to delve deeper into the intricate tapestry of the story, unraveling aspects that might otherwise remain unexplored in a standard film format.
