Ricardo Bofill’s architectural firm, Bofill Taller de Arquitectura, has recently revealed the finished Centre de Congrès for the Rabat campus of Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique. The structure boasts a grand stone exterior and an impressive auditorium adorned in emerald hues. This site marks the focal point of a multi-year architectural blueprint.

The company describes its project as a “flexible, welcoming area for a varied mix of individuals and events.” The initial stage, shown finished in the gallery, will launch in Fall 2024 — featuring a versatile building that accommodates a conference center for faculty talks, industry gatherings, public shows, and additional activities. Despite having a unified impact, the structure encompasses various amenities such as smaller theaters, meeting spaces, lounges, and dining areas, along with circulation paths and support services.

Linking the two sections of the campus, this building functions as a spatial boundary as well. The idea of progression is underscored by massive porches encircling the perimeter, where beige-tiled walkways fluidly extend onto the exterior for a seamless transition from the courtyard to the entrance hall.

In simpler terms, the design of this auditorium creatively combines circles and squares, with changing curved areas surrounding the square space. A bright ring of light on the ceiling replicates this blend, providing a captivating, colorful atmosphere filled with deep greens. Every element within the auditorium, from the walls to the carpeting and upholstery, is saturated in this vibrant green, adding a lively contrast to the formal exterior.
