Disney and BBC Studios have exciting news for Bluey’s enthusiasts: the adored blue heeler will be making her big-screen debut in her very first full-length movie, slated for release in cinemas on August 6, 2027.
Today, BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Studios announced their collaboration with Ludo Studio to take the popular TV series to movie theaters.

In the upcoming film, Joe Brumm, the brainchild behind Bluey, will both pen and guide the project as director. Additionally, he’ll serve in a high-level executive role.
The movie is being collaboratively made by Ludo Studio and BBC Studios. Amber Naismith, recognized for her work in Happy Feet and The LEGO Movie, is overseeing production. Co-direction duties are handled by Richard Jeffery, who has been involved with Bluey since its early episodes.
In this venture, Disney’s live-action projects are supervised by David Greenbaum, who serves as the president of both Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios. BBC Studios is contributing financially to the production and distribution of the film, while it is Disney who will manage the cinema release.
Additionally, backing is being provided by both the Australian National Government (Screen Australia) and the state government of Queensland (Screen Queensland).
Actors Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack will reprise their roles as Chilli and Bandit, respectively, which are Bluey’s mom and dad. For the first time ever, Bluey and her family are set to star in a complete movie-length tale on the big screen.
The film aims to encapsulate both the emotional depth and comedic charm found in the award-winning television series, yet amplifies these elements significantly.
In 2024, Bluey emerged as a globally beloved television series, with BBC Studios reporting that it was the most-viewed program on Disney+ worldwide and the top streamed show in the U.S. for the said year.
The show continued its reign through 2025 as well. It also garnered accolades, such as a Peabody Award in 2024 and consecutive honors from the Television Critics Association in 2023 and 2024.
Initially debuting in Australia, the program swiftly gained global popularity and can now be accessed in over 140 international markets. Currently, it ranks as the top children’s show on Disney+ and CBeebies in the United Kingdom.
Anticipation builds for the upcoming movie, set to deliver the same excitement and emotional depth in cinemas by 2027, offering viewers an entirely fresh perspective on Bluey’s universe.
