Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have escalated their long-standing defamation lawsuit against filmmaker Justin Baldoni by requesting a restraining order, claiming that Baldoni’s legal representative has made harmful and slanderous public comments concerning them.
Esra Hudson, the attorney representing the couple, submitted a letter to Judge Lewis J. Liman, outlining that requiring ethical conduct from legal professionals is not equivalent to a gag order, but rather it serves to ensure that court proceedings remain impartial and just.
As reported by Deadline, Hudson argued in a four-page document submitted to New York federal court that “The Wayfarer Parties are trying to create a potentially harmful false analogy which could have significant implications not only for this case, but also for other women who experience sexual harassment in the workplace, given the prominence of this issue.
After the denial of their request for a gag order on January 22, Baldoni’s lawyer filed a lawsuit, asserting that the couple was using attorney discipline rules as a means of intimidation.
In simpler terms, Baldoni’s legal representative countered the previous restraining order demand concerning the release of an It Ends With Us making-of video by stating that it was unfairly restrictive given that Justin had been tarnished by a New York Times article which they claim cost him three job opportunities and losses worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Essentially, Justin desires to share videos and messages as evidence to refute the accusations.
The lawyer for the actor argued that Baldoni and his associates have endured significant damage to their reputation, lost jobs, and financial losses due to Lively’s accusations. He also compared this situation to a strategically planned media assault similar to well-known disputes among Hollywood celebrities in the past.
Currently, there’s no scheduled court date yet for the hearing regarding the protective order that Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Justin Baldoni have requested.
