Billy Maximoff: The MCU Character with the Most Twisted Family Tree

As a seasoned gamer and Marvel enthusiast with an eye for family trees that could put the Borgias to shame, let me tell you, Billy Kaplan’s ancestry is a rollercoaster ride that would make even the most hardened genealogists break out in cold sweats.

In the world of gaming, it feels like I’ve stumbled upon a character I thought was a given – Billy Kaplan, or Wiccan as he’s also known. You probably recognize him as the reborn child of Wanda Maximoff and Vision, the visionary couple in our universe.

In the world of comics, Wiccan’s history is intricate. Married to Vision, Scarlet Witch employed her powers to bring forth twin boys, William and Thomas, from two wandering spirits. Eventually, a demon named Mephisto retrieved those spirits, but they were transformed by Wanda’s magic into beings that ultimately destroyed him.

In a twist of cosmic events, I found myself stepping into the shoes of Billy Kaplan – the eldest offspring of Jeff Kaplan, a renowned heart doctor, and Rebecca Kaplan, a skilled psychologist. Much like how the Marvel Cinematic Universe weaves intricate tales, my family history has become a tangled web that’s as captivating as any superhero saga.

Billy’s maternal relatives are rather straightforward. His uncle goes by the name Pietro Maximoff, more famously recognized as Quicksilver, while his grandparents are Olek and Iryna Maximoff.

From his father’s family, matters become complicated since Vision is a synthetic being. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Vision was constructed by Ultron under the guidance of Helen Cho. This implies that in essence, Ultron and Helen serve as Vision’s ‘grandparents’, being linked to him through Billy.

In simpler terms, recall the instance when Thor used his hammer Mjölnir to generate lightning, which was instrumental in infusing life into Vision while J.A.R.V.I.S. was being transferred into him? Essentially, since Thor played a crucial role in creating Vision alongside Ultron and Cho, you could consider Thor as a sort of grandparent figure for Billy (character).

In a sense, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner might be considered as Billy’s virtual ancestors, given that they are the inventors of Ultron. Unfortunately, this creation of theirs became one of their largest regrets.

Regarding J.A.R.V.I.S., since he’s integrated into Vision now, he’s not considered separately, hence his absence in the discussion.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s a possibility that Billy’s genealogy could become even more intricate if Tommy makes his return; this depends on the way they choose to reintroduce him into the storyline.
