Billie Eilish has publicly criticized Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis. Good, a mother of three and local poet, was shot by an ICE agent on January 7th during an immigration enforcement operation, which led to protests nationwide. Good was also known for volunteering with neighborhood groups that monitored ICE activity in her community.
I was really shocked to see Billie Eilish sharing some incredibly strong statements on her Instagram on January 9th. She reposted graphics that were highly critical of ICE, even going so far as to label them a “federally funded and supported terrorist group.” Billboard reported that these posts accused ICE of breaking up families, frightening people, and, tragically, even causing the deaths of innocent individuals. It’s a really powerful stance for her to take, and it definitely sparked a lot of conversation.
Billie Eilish recently shared a strong statement on Instagram criticizing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). She called ICE a “federally funded and supported terrorist group” within the Department of Homeland Security, arguing that it hasn’t improved public safety.

She also shared a post calling for the abolition of ICE, noting that 32 people allegedly died while in their custody last year. Another post encouraged people to contact their representatives in Congress to advocate for defunding ICE and to demand the arrest and prosecution of the officer involved in Good’s death.
Billie Eilish has often shared her views on political matters. She’s been critical of policies enacted by President Trump and has consistently supported stronger gun control measures. After the shooting at Brown University in December, she again emphasized the importance of stricter gun laws.
In 2023, she participated in the ‘Artist For Action To Prevent Gun Violence’ video, collaborating with fellow musicians to advocate for new gun laws. Previously, in 2019, she urged her fans to call for stronger gun control measures following the tragic mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.
The shooting in Minneapolis has also prompted reactions from well-known individuals. For example, Neil Young spoke out about the event, calling on people in the United States to protest against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
In response to public outcry over the shooting, ICE has reportedly stopped running ads on Spotify.
Billie Eilish regularly uses her social media to advocate for causes she believes in, recently focusing on immigration policies and wider social concerns.
