As an ardent fan of Billie Eilish, I have been deeply moved by her journey, one that mirrors the complexities and challenges of being human. Her courage to openly discuss her mental health struggles and physical pain is commendable, and it resonates with me on a personal level. Her resilience in the face of adversity, especially her struggle with hypermobility, is truly inspiring.
Billie Eilish, who previously spoke about her mental health issues, recently talked about her physical well-being in an interview. She expressed feeling like she’s perpetually at odds with her body. The singer of the hit song Birds of a Feather, at 22 years old, revealed in a November issue of Vogue that she has suffered numerous injuries during performances over time. Additionally, she manages a condition called hypermobility, which allows her joints to extend beyond their usual limits.
She shared with the fashion magazine that she’s been experiencing discomfort since she was just nine years old. As she grew older, others often warned her that her pain might get worse, but she remembered feeling incredibly frustrated by those remarks.
Apart from her struggles with her physical well-being, Eilish also shared that entertaining crowds of thousands used to leave her feeling lonely in the past.
She shared that there were periods during her tours which were quite challenging,” she said. “For a while, I was existing more like I was on a temporary basis. In essence, I was touring now and finding it rather uncomfortable, but I knew it wouldn’t last forever. The reality is, this is my life from hereon.
Nevertheless, Eilish has accepted her situation, saying she’s focusing on finding joy in it for herself. In her own words, “I spent many years feeling quite lonely, but that’s not what I want now. I want to appreciate both the performance and my daily life.
Previously, Eilish shared her struggle with depression during an interview with Rolling Stone in April 2024. Despite this, she portrayed herself as a joyful individual who could discover amusement and humor even amidst her depressive state.
One day, Eilish’s familiarity with melancholy shifted, as she encountered a pivotal moment and acknowledged that it had been seven years since she last truly felt happy. She admitted that despite her remarkable accomplishments at a young age, she had only perceived happiness, but in reality, outside the limelight of her career, there was little true joy experienced by her.
At one point, Eilish shared with Rolling Stone that she’s been trying to rekindle the relationship with the person she was in 2019, whom she referred to as her most cherished time. She hinted at her third album, “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” bringing a sense of being five years old again. Eilish admitted to mourning her younger self and seeking her out everywhere, but it seemed like the world and media had submerged her. Painfully, she can’t recall when that version of herself disappeared.
In my own reflection, during an interview with Vogue, I shared that I carry a hint of remorse about openly discussing my personal matters such as sexuality and relationships. Yet, I stand firm in my backing for Kamala Harris should she decide to run for President in 2024.
