For Halloween, Netflix is re-releasing its popular animated film, “KPop Demon Hunters,” in cinemas with a special sing-along version.
A new movie about a K-pop girl group who fight demons using their music will be shown in theaters across the U.S. from October 31st to November 2nd. It will be playing at major chains like AMC, Regal, and Cinemark, and also at some smaller independent theaters. Netflix is encouraging fans to come to the screenings dressed in costumes.
This is unusual because major U.S. movie theaters typically don’t show Netflix films, as Netflix primarily releases movies online.
The series “KPop Demon Hunters” has become incredibly popular, and releasing it in theaters is expected to benefit both Netflix and cinemas. With a slow October for movie releases – aside from the thriller “Bugonia” starring Emma Stone and a re-release of “Twilight” – this Netflix event comes at just the right time.
Okay, so this movie actually had a really interesting run. It originally popped up in theaters for just two days in August as a sing-along event, and believe it or not, it pulled in around $18 million! That’s pretty amazing when you consider it had *already* been available on streaming for a couple of months. It just shows how much people still love the experience of seeing a movie with others, even if they can watch it at home.
Get ready for KPop Demon Hunters, a thrilling new series where your favorite idols sing, dance, and fight demons between performances! It premieres on June 20th. And don’t miss the end – you’ll get a special preview of “TAKEDOWN,” a new song by TWICE!

Since debuting on Netflix in June, “KPop Demon Hunters” has become the most popular movie ever on the platform. Three songs from the film – “Golden,” “Your Idol,” and “Soda Pop” – have even made it onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Now that it’s playing in theaters, the movie is expected to encourage even more people to watch it on Netflix and get excited about the next installment.
AMC Theatres, the biggest movie theater chain globally, is now showing a film in around 400 locations in the U.S. and Europe, even though they didn’t show it when it first came out. This suggests AMC is now more willing to work with Netflix, after previously avoiding them because of disputes over how long movies play in theaters before becoming available for streaming.
An AMC spokesperson said that although Netflix and AMC haven’t worked together commercially recently, both companies see potential benefits in collaborating now and in the future. They are currently exploring what that collaboration might look like, but aren’t releasing any specifics yet.
