Ian Ziering, famous for playing a role on the TV show Beverly Hills, 90210, is being sued in civil court. The lawsuit claims he committed battery and assault during an incident that reportedly happened in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve.
A lawsuit obtained by PEOPLE alleges that 20-year-old Jacob Hernandez was physically and verbally assaulted by Ziering during a road rage incident on December 31, 2023, according to Hernandez’s complaint.
According to the complaint, Hernandez and a friend were driving motorcycles down a busy street when they stopped near a Mercedes-Benz that was also stopped, driven by Ziering.
According to Hernandez, he wasn’t obstructing traffic. The legal document states that Ziering unexpectedly got out of the car and began shouting at him. Hernandez reportedly didn’t react, but Ziering then allegedly pushed him, causing both cyclists to fall and damage their bikes. Both men claim to have been injured in the incident.
According to Hernandez, the situation quickly worsened when people nearby intervened to help him, and some of the fight was recorded on video. Court documents state that Ziering’s actions were deliberate, unneeded, and likely to cause Hernandez both physical and emotional distress – which he did experience.
The lawsuit claims Ziering leveraged his fame to control how the story was reported and left out important information when speaking to the media and on social media.
Hernandez states he was arrested and held on $50,000 bail in May 2024 as a result of public statements made by Ziering. Although the District Attorney later dropped the case, Hernandez claims the arrest and the resulting negative publicity significantly harmed his mental health, causing anxiety, panic attacks, and paranoia. He asserts that Ziering’s statements were widely publicized and unfairly portrayed him in a negative light.
Videos show actor Ian Ziering surrounded by a group riding mini-bikes before a fight started while he was with his 10-year-old daughter, Penna. Police described the incident as a physical fight between Ziering and several people in the mini-bike group. His car was damaged, but both he and his daughter were thankfully unharmed.
On January 1, 2024, Ian Ziering shared on Instagram that he was involved in a concerning encounter with a group riding mini bikes.
