Betty Boop Will Slay Nosy Podcasters in BOOP Horror Movie

It seems like whenever a classic character enters the public domain, it often leads to a low-budget horror movie. We’ve already seen this with films featuring frightening versions of Winnie the Pooh and Bambi, and this trend, dubbed the “Twisted Childhood Universe,” isn’t likely to stop. Now, Betty Boop is getting the horror treatment too. According to Deadline, a dark and scary take on the classic cartoon character, titled BOOP, is heading to the American Film Market.

Furst Class Productions is making this movie, and VMI Worldwide will handle distribution. The film, called BOOP, already has a basic storyline.

A horror podcast team investigating local legends breaks into an abandoned theater, hoping to uncover the story of a former starlet named Boop. What starts as a routine investigation quickly becomes a terrifying fight for survival as they realize Boop’s ghost is not only haunting the theater, but hunting them down for revenge.

The new horror movie featuring Betty Boop is seriously creepy – it’s probably the most unsettling thing I’ll see this week. The film, called BOOP, stars Devanny Pinn as Betty Boop, with Katisha Shaw, Spencer Breslin, Eva Hamilton, and Colton Tran also appearing. Jose Prendes and Josh Ridgway wrote the screenplay, and Jared Cohn directed the movie.

As a huge fan, I’m still reeling from the fact they’re turning a classic cartoon into a horror movie! But what really excites me about this project, according to VMI’s COO Jessica Russo, is why Betty Boop is fighting back. It’s not just about scares; her story has a really dark past, and this movie lets her reclaim her power. And the best part? It’s being led by a mostly female team – a truly empowering take on the character!

BOOP doesn’t have a release date or trailer yet, but we expect it will generate a lot of buzz once we get a look at it.
