Bethesda-approved Skyblivion is suddenly more than just an exciting remake – it’s a poster child for a potential game-changer for mods: one-click modding on GOG

At yesterday’s PC Gaming Show, GOG unveiled a fresh plan called One-click Mods. With this feature, you can effortlessly access a collection of high-quality mods that are specifically designed for the games they’re associated with. Additionally, an exciting project, Skyblivion – a mod that recreates Oblivion using Skyrim’s engine – will also be available on GOG, much like Fallout: London.

According to Kyle “Rebelzize” Rebel, the lead of the Skyblivion project, GOG stands out with its exceptional reputation. Even though it’s not as large as Steam, it consistently dedicates more resources and effort than any other platform. In an attempt to make Skyblivion accessible to a wide audience, we are eager to collaborate with GOG, as they can significantly aid in achieving this goal. We will also continue our self-distribution efforts, but I’m skeptical that we can surpass the reliability of GOG’s stable servers.

The rebel mentioned that the Skyblivion team seemed to have drawn significant inspiration from the launch of Fallout: London on GOG. He added, “Prior to its release, I hadn’t contemplated such a creative approach in this manner.

Yesterday’s broadcast announced that the project will launch in 2025, and Rebel stated, “We are collaborating with GOG for a smooth launch once it’s time.” They’re putting in long hours to their utmost capacity to hit this release date, and they’re also aiming to achieve some additional targets.

“Having said that, until Skyblivion is available to download for everyone, I will enjoy no relief.”

The representative from GOG stated that they are yet to finalize the steps for playing the game, but they anticipate offering two options: if you already have the base game on GOG, simply add the one-click mod version to your account, click install and you’re ready to play. For those who don’t own it, there might be a few more steps involved, but they aim to keep the process as straightforward as possible.

Fortunately, despite the expected launch of Oblivion Remastered, it seems that Skyblivion remains unaffected. In fact, GOG assures us that the excitement surrounding Oblivion Remastered demonstrates just how eager gamers are to play classic titles with a modern twist, and they believe that players will be equally thrilled with Skyblivion too.
