Haley Lu Richardson is known for her bubbly personality and ability to draw people in, and she recently showed off another side of herself at a press event for her new film, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die. During the Berlin Film Festival, the 30-year-old actress surprised everyone by breaking into an impromptu acrobatic performance.
At a Friday photo call, Richardson effortlessly performed headstands and high kicks while photographers snapped pictures. Wearing a blazer, shorts, and heels, she demonstrated an unexpected level of athleticism.
The spontaneous display of martial arts moves and splits amazed the crowd, with co-stars Sam Rockwell and Michael Peña laughing heartily. Even director Gore Verbinski joined in with a few kicks, though he admitted he couldn’t keep up with Richardson’s impressive agility.
The energy at the photo shoot seemed to perfectly reflect the close relationships the cast had formed while filming. Director Verbinski said it was delightfully chaotic trying to keep them focused, as they were always laughing and singing instead of going off on their own.
Richardson stars in the film, a two-hour-long comedic take on a futuristic world, playing a mysterious character named Ingrid who is often seen in an elaborate princess gown. The story centers around Sam Rockwell as a time traveler who arrives at a Los Angeles diner to assemble a team to combat a dangerous threat posed by rebellious artificial intelligence.
Professionally, Richardson is enjoying a career high, but she’s also openly discussed her personal journey after a difficult breakup. Following the end of her engagement to Brett Dier in 2020, she spent several years focusing on rebuilding her confidence and independence.

Looking back on that time, she shared that she used to be terrified of what would happen if the relationship ended. But with time, she realized she was strong enough to be independent and move on.
Richardson described rediscovering herself as a wonderful experience, adding that being single has had a positive impact on her daily life. She’s been incredibly busy lately, both with events in Berlin and other projects.
Besides the sci-fi comedy she’s working on, she recently starred in the independent film Zi, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. The film, directed by Kogonada, tells a beautiful story about a brief encounter that makes her character rethink her future.
In addition to her other projects, Richardson will be in the Peacock series Ponies, a Cold War-era spy thriller set in Moscow. She’ll star with Emilia Clarke as two embassy secretaries caught up in international secrets. Beyond acting, Richardson recently released a book of poetry and often appears on talk shows, where she’s known for cheerfully sharing her love of the Jonas Brothers.
