Music producer Benny Blanco recently disclosed on the Jay Shetty Podcast that he once attempted to introduce his now-fiancée, Selena Gomez, to one of his friends. Back then, Blanco felt that Gomez didn’t like him when they initially crossed paths 16 years ago. The couple discussed their initial encounters during a March 24 episode on the Jay Shetty Podcast.

Blanco reminisced about their initial encounter, orchestrated by Mandy Teefey, Gomez’s mother, for a musical collaboration. “I believed she disliked me,” Blanco confessed. “Mostly, it was just my imagination playing tricks.” Consequently, he aimed to acquaint Gomez with one of his bachelor associates instead.

Blanco mentioned that they were chatting with someone and casually said, “Wow, I have a bunch of great single male friends… We often have dinner at home; you should join us some time.” At the moment, they weren’t thinking about anything specific, as their conversation revolved around ideal dates and other topics.

In spite of an early miscommunication between them, Benny Blanco and the other individual remained connected and eventually formed a friendship. He expressed his desire for her to join their circle of friends and facilitate a harmonious partnership during the creation of their song.

Gradually, they swapped messages and shared unflattering self-portraits with one another, a practice that solidified their connection. Later on, Selena Gomez disclosed during a podcast that she eventually grew fond of Blanco through their conversations, while Blanco confessed he was oblivious to her deepening feelings towards him at the time.

In response to the question about potentially undermining their relationship, Blanco stated that he felt whatever transpired was part of a larger plan, and perhaps his actions may have given Gomez a sense of comfort instead.

In December 2023, it was made clear that Gomez and Blanco were an item as Gomez responded to fan-made Instagram posts about their relationship. A year later, in December 2024, they announced their engagement, having been together for over a year, according to PEOPLE.

More recently, Gomez and Blanco unveiled their jointly produced album titled “I Said I Love You First,” which hit the shelves on March 21st. As stated in a press announcement, this album offers fans an exclusive glimpse into their relationship, chronicling their story from its inception prior to meeting, through the stages of falling in love, and toward their shared future.
