In March, Marvel announced a huge cast for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, listing 27 actors from throughout the Marvel Multiverse. Fans noticed a few key absences, most surprisingly Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Doctor Strange. Given that Doctor Strange’s last film heavily focused on the Multiverse, many were confused by his omission. Now, Cumberbatch is explaining his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He recently told Collider exactly when fans can expect to see Doctor Strange reappear.
I feel something strongly, but I can’t explain it. Someone is approaching. He’s on his way, and you will encounter Strange again, without a doubt.
It’s official: Doctor Strange will return in future Marvel films. While we don’t know exactly when or how, a third Doctor Strange movie seems highly likely given the success of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The last film’s ending, with Strange and Clea working to resolve issues across different universes, definitely sets up a continuation. Plus, despite not being officially listed in the cast, many fans expect to see Doctor Strange play some role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie.
We’re predicting Benedict Cumberbatch (and likely Charlize Theron) will make brief appearances in Doomsday. However, given Doctor Strange’s significant role in the Secret Wars comics, it’s almost certain he’ll have a similar part in the Avengers: Secret Wars movie. In the original comics, Strange served as Doctor Doom’s sheriff on the newly created Battleworld. While the movie will likely differ from the source material, we suspect this sheriff role will remain. Regardless of what happens with Benedict Cumberbatch’s character in the future of the MCU, we now know he’ll be involved.
