Bend Studio Still Promises Cool Sh*t For Days Gone Amidst Sony Cancellations

Recently, it’s been announced that Sony has unexpectedly scrapped a live-service game in development by Bend Studio, the creators of Days Gone. This move was allegedly a shock to Bend, as they found out about the cancellation at the same time as the general public.

In spite of the sudden turn of events, Bend Studio maintains a positive outlook. Kevin McAllister, their community manager, expressed his thanks for the continuous support, saying, ‘Thank you all for your love and backing, particularly to those who have reached out. By the way, we’re still working on producing awesome things.’

Earlier, I had been thrilled to hear that Bend Studio was developing a brand new intellectual property (IP), promising multiplayer features and expanding on the open-world mechanics of Days Gone. However, it remains uncertain whether this project is the one impacted by Sony’s latest decisions.

This action aligns with a larger trend, as Sony is currently reassessing its approach to live-service games. Other cancellations involve live-service games, such as one rumored to be set in the God of War universe from Bluepoint, along with projects originating from studios like Naughty Dog and Firesprite.

Journalist Jeff Grubb pointed out that Bend and Bluepoint studios learned about the cancellations simultaneously with the general public. Grubb added that these teams have been assigned the job of proposing fresh ideas for projects to Sony, even though Sony’s priorities appear to be changing.

I’ll make this brief.

Thank you all for the affection and encouragement, and a special thank you to those who have reached out. 💕

P.S. Rest assured, we are still working on developing exciting things!

Sony guarantees the continuation of both Bend and Bluepoint studios. These exceptionally skilled teams are committed to collaborating closely with PlayStation Studios on deciding their upcoming ventures.

Due to the disappointing success of Sony’s live-action game “Concord,” which was removed from sale only two weeks following its debut because of insufficient player engagement, there have been rumors suggesting that Sony might be rethinking their focus on live-service games.

To put it in my own words as a dedicated fan, though Sony’s decision to shelve Bend Studio’s current project took me by surprise, I have faith that they are steadfast in their mission to create captivating new experiences. The gaming community and I eagerly anticipate learning more about the studio’s upcoming projects.
