Ben Stiller Asked Barack Obama to Voice a Character on SEVERANCE

In the premiere of “Severance” season two, a well-known celebrity delivered an unexpected performance that left viewers guessing – it was believed to be Keanu Reeves lending his voice to a claymation model of Lumon’s headquarters in a video played for refiners following the Macrodat Uprising. However, the part went uncredited and the show’s creators remained tight-lipped about the star’s identity. Now, series director and executive producer Ben Stiller has confirmed that it indeed was Reeves we heard. Interestingly, Reeves wasn’t the original pick for the role – Barack Obama, former U.S. President, had initially been approached but declined the opportunity to work for an evil corporation in “Severance”.

On Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ben Stiller revealed that Keanu Reeves is joining the cast of Severance. During the same interview, Stiller shared an interesting story about how Barack Obama was initially considered for the role. According to Stiller, he attempted to offer the part through some private connections and received a response from Obama just two days later. In the email, Obama expressed his enthusiasm for the show and Season 1, but explained that he didn’t think he could fit the role into his busy schedule.

Hardly significant. As Stiller put it, “What could be more trivial than providing the voice-over for the animated structure in Severance?

The show sought Obama’s involvement because they desired someone with familiar connections, yet also needed a person who exuded warmth. As Stiller mentioned, Reeves was serious about taking on the seemingly absurd role. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, he explained, “We wanted someone who evokes certain feelings in people, but the Lumon building and its voice should also embody friendliness and have a heart.

As a film enthusiast, I completely get it. Just like how Barack Obama passed up the chance to be part of one of television’s finest productions, if Severance extends an invitation for another season, I can hardly imagine him refusing such an opportunity twice.
