Ben Kingsley shared that the new Marvel series Wonder Man, coming to Disney+, will explore the story of his character, Trevor Slattery, both before and after he pretended to be the Mandarin.
In a new interview with EW.com, Kingsley described the series as a complete look at Trevor Slattery’s life – essentially a biopic. It shows how the struggling actor transformed into the character of the Mandarin in Iron Man 3 and what happened after he fled the genuine Ten Rings organization.

Trevor Slattery Returns to Hollywood
According to Kingsley, Wonder Man centers on Trevor’s return to Los Angeles after being held captive in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The show is set within the world of Hollywood and explores themes like auditions, the casting process, and the pursuit of fame and success, along with the egos and ambition that come with it.
According to Kingsley, the show explores both the appealing and harmful aspects of achieving success, all while remaining engaging and avoiding harsh criticism.

A Two-Hander With Wonder Man
Let me tell you, “Wonder Man” really boils down to the dynamic between two characters. It’s largely carried by the relationship between Trevor and Simon Williams, brilliantly played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. What’s fascinating is that Simon, much like Trevor, is an actor trying to make it, even auditioning for a superhero show within the show. Then, of course, he ends up getting powers himself, which really complicates things and fuels the story.
They connect because they both want to achieve great things, but Kingsley suggests Trevor’s weaknesses will reappear, leading to a difficult ethical challenge as he pursues his goals.

Exploring Trevor Before and After the Mandarin
According to Kingsley, this installment of the series delves deeper into Trevor’s story than ever before, revealing his life before and after taking on the Mandarin role. He describes it as the most complex and nuanced depiction of the character so far, highlighting Trevor’s internal struggle between his aspirations and the repercussions of his actions.
Wonder Man is Kingsley’s fourth time playing Trevor Slattery, after appearing in Iron Man 3, All Hail the King, and Shang-Chi.
