Meanwhile, although many Daredevil fans are eagerly anticipating the “Daredevil: Born Again” series with Charlie Cox, it’s important to remember that the initial cinematic Daredevil portrayed by Ben Affleck hasn’t slipped our minds either.
Affleck is right now publicizing his upcoming film titled “The Accountant 2“, and during an interview, he also spoke about his contentious superhero character, shared with Jon Bernthal, who portrays The Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and soon to be seen in “Born Again“) as well.
It’s common knowledge that Affleck faced challenges in superhero roles. His portrayal of Daredevil was met with much criticism, and although he garnered appreciation as Batman in the DC Extended Universe, we’re all aware of its eventual downfall. Now, Affleck is opening up about a significant issue related to his experiences.
Previously, standalone superhero films primarily focused on their unique tones, lacking a common narrative world. Although certain films received sequels, they didn’t establish a unified universe with other characters. Each lone superhero’s tale unfolded independently, without any crossover appearances from others.
In a significant shift, Kevin Feige revolutionized the movie landscape with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Whether people view it as a success or a challenge, the MCU now serves as a blueprint for managing a vast cinematographic universe. Of course, the MCU isn’t perfect, but at present, it stands as the top example of its kind.
Ben Affleck concurs with this sentiment. Reflecting on the “Daredevil” movie, Affleck added his thoughts as well: “The Daredevil story was intriguing. It was before Kevin Feige assumed the role of managing Marvel,” he began.
Afterward, he went on discussing Feige. “He managed to establish a consistent tone throughout those films that successfully navigated the most complex issue: ‘How can you harmoniously blend a movie featuring people in pajamas with superpowers, how much of it should be taken seriously, how much humor is appropriate, how often should we nudge the audience, and what kind of action does it require?'” he explained.
As visual effects reached a point where they appeared incredibly authentic, it paved the way for talented actors such as him to shine. In conclusion, he admitted that Feige indeed innovated something new, and this approach turned out to be remarkably successful, albeit requiring occasional adjustments over time.
In the end, he too offered his thoughts on how his co-star portrayed The Punisher. “To be honest,” Affleck stated, “I think his interpretation of The Punisher is solid. I haven’t had a chance to watch the latest Daredevil yet, but I’m a fan of the character and I wish him success. However, I wouldn’t want to cross paths with his version of The Punisher.
