Ben Affleck Pranks Dunkin’ Fans During Ad Shoot

As a huge movie fan, I was so surprised when Ben Affleck started doing those Dunkin’ commercials! Apparently, not all of them even aired. He recently shared a story about one that totally flopped. It was supposed to be a funny bit where he was working the drive-through and telling people they were out of coffee, but it just didn’t land right, so they scrapped it. It’s funny to think about someone who’s won an Oscar doing a coffee prank gone wrong!

While promoting their new Netflix film, ‘The Rip,’ Ben Affleck and Matt Damon recounted a memorable Dunkin’ commercial that never made it to television. The ad featured Affleck working at a Dunkin’ location in Medford, Massachusetts, and delivering disappointing news to customers.

The prank seemed amusing when planned, but customers weren’t happy when it actually happened. Damon explained that most people stopping by were just trying to start their day, and those heading to work – like painters needing their coffee – were especially upset to find out there wasn’t any.

Affleck clearly recalls the annoyed responses from customers and even reenacted some of their complaints. He shared that some were upset, feeling they’d wasted an hour only to find out there was no coffee. One customer was reportedly furious, shouting that they hadn’t waited all that time for just water after being offered an alternative drink.

Although Ben Affleck loved the concept, Dunkin’ executives were concerned about how it would affect their brand. Matt Damon explained that the company rejected the idea because they didn’t want to suggest they could run out of donuts. The marketing team felt it was too risky, so the footage was never released.

Even though one of their promotional ideas didn’t quite work out, Ben Affleck and Dunkin’ are still working together very successfully. They recently starred in a big seven-minute Super Bowl commercial for 2025, along with celebrities like Tom Brady. In the ad, Affleck played up his funny, coffee-loving character, pretending to start a boy band.

Ben Affleck has been working on a lot of acting and directing projects recently. His latest film, the action thriller The Rip, premiered on Netflix on January 16, 2026, and stars him as a detective in Miami named J.D. Byrne. The movie marks a long-awaited on-screen reunion with Matt Damon, and also features Steven Yeun and Teyana Taylor.

Later this year, Ben Affleck will direct and star in a new Netflix thriller called Animals. The movie will also feature Kerry Washington and Gillian Anderson, and centers around a kidnapping.

Ben Affleck continues to be busy both on and off screen. He and Matt Damon co-run Artists Equity, a production company dedicated to ensuring actors and crew members receive a more equitable share of movie profits. From his commercials to his major film projects, it’s evident Affleck has no plans to retire from the spotlight anytime soon.

Imagine Ben Affleck commented on your post saying your local Dunkin’ is all out of coffee. Would that make you mad, or would you find it funny?
