While promoting Matt Damon’s new movie, The Odyssey, Ben Affleck playfully teased his friend about how incredibly fit he’s gotten. The two longtime friends, known for their decades of working and joking together in Hollywood, continued their good-natured ribbing about Damon’s physical transformation for the film.
During a 2025 interview on the Today Show with Jon Bernthal to promote The Accountant 2, Ben Affleck jokingly teased Matt Damon about his physique for the movie The Odyssey. Affleck recounted how Damon immediately took his shirt off to show off his new, toned body, asking who he could impress. Affleck playfully suggested Damon might want to tone it down a bit, while also acknowledging his friend’s hard work and dedication.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon recently appeared on the Today Show, where they jokingly revisited an old moment: Affleck teasing Damon about his physique. Affleck playfully acknowledged a popular paparazzi photo of a shirtless Damon, saying, “I am proud of him. Calvin Klein model. I think it’s very impressive.” Damon tried to brush it off, but Affleck continued the good-natured ribbing. “The director wanted me to get out there and lay on the couch and flex,” Affleck joked, poking fun at Damon’s attempts to minimize the attention his muscles received.
Even with all the playful banter, the interaction showed how close the two actors are as friends. It also emphasized the significant effort Damon made to get in shape for the challenging role of Odysseus.
Matt Damon dramatically lost weight for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, THE ODYSSEY, dropping down to 167 pounds. Nolan asked him to be fit and toned, and Damon, already following a gluten-free diet due to a doctor’s recommendation, went from his usual 185 to 200 pounds to achieve that.

As a huge film buff, I recently checked out Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, and it’s a really compelling take on the classic Homer story. It follows Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, and his incredibly difficult trip back home after the Trojan War. He just keeps facing one obstacle after another, and it’s gripping to watch!
The movie features a star-studded cast including Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, and others, with Tom Holland playing Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, and Zendaya as Athena. Universal Pictures has announced a release date of July 17, 2026. Initial previews have generated buzz, showcasing Matt Damon in stunning settings and thrilling action scenes.
Christopher Nolan’s new film was shot completely using IMAX cameras. See the trailer for The Odyssey and catch it in theaters on July 17th and 26th.
