As a gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can honestly say that Eiji Yanagisawa was a titan in the anime industry. His voice transcended the boundaries of screens and speakers, bringing characters to life that would have been mere pixels without his talent.
In simple terms, people who love anime are deeply saddened by the passing of a well-respected voice actor, Eiji Yanagisawa, who has been a familiar face in the world of anime since he first appeared in the legendary Mobile Suit Gundam series back in 1981.
Sadly, Yanagisawa died on November 12, 2024, following a brain stem hemorrhage at the age of 57.
Production Baobab, his talent agency, announced that his private funeral and wake were held as requested by his family’s preferences.
Yanagisawa’s voicebringing characters from Eastern and Western animation to life spanned a wide range.
In well-known anime productions like Naruto: Shippuden, he gained recognition for portraying characters, specifically Genzo, the photographer from the Hidden Leaf Village, who was one of his roles.
His portrayal added depth to a character that captured essential moments for the village, despite not being in the frontline of ninja battles.
Initially lending his voice in the series Mobile Suit Gundam I, Yanagisawa played the character Slender, who was a faithful follower within the Zeon Empire.
His career extended across the cosmos, featuring in Mobile Suit Gundam Seed and SD Gundam Force, where he portrayed characters such as Dr. Ulen Hibiki, Gunbike, and Zapper Zaku.
Apart from anime, his impact went further by providing voiceovers for the Japanese adaptations of famous Western shows and movies like CSI: NY, CSI: Miami, and The World is Not Enough.
