Bella Hadid Shares Photos from Hospital Amid Ongoing Battle with Lyme Disease, Pens a Note

Oh my gosh, I was SO worried when I saw Bella Hadid posted those photos on Instagram! It was from Wednesday, September 17th, and she was actually *in* a hospital bed! Like, seriously, my heart stopped. She showed herself hooked up to IVs and wearing an oxygen mask, and it just…it broke my heart to see her going through that. I’m just sending all my love and hoping she feels better soon. She’s so strong, but seeing her like that was really scary, honestly. I’ve been obsessively checking for updates ever since!

Bella Hadid apologized for being unreachable in a recent post, adding that she loves her fans.

The photos documented her time with a variety of everyday moments – enjoying pizza, admiring a handmade angel, and watching sunsets, rainbows, and flowers. There were also pictures of her with loved ones, playing cards, and even a candid shot of her in an elevator, hair still wet from a shower, with a coffee in hand.

Yolanda Hadid, Bella’s mother, praised her as a “Lyme warrior” in a comment. Gigi Hadid, Bella’s sister, sent her love and wished her a speedy recovery, hoping she feels strong soon. Actress Nikki Reed also offered support, sending loving thoughts and positive energy for Bella’s healing.

Bella hasn’t shared details about why she was in the hospital, but her mother, Yolanda, spoke about it on Instagram. Yolanda expressed deep sadness watching her daughter struggle, saying it was heartbreaking. She praised Bella’s strength and courage, and noted that no child should have to deal with a long-term, incurable illness.

Gigi Hadid has been open about her health struggles. She was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012, the same as her mother, Yolanda, and brother, Anwar. In 2023, she announced she was feeling well for the first time in a long time, after more than 100 days of treatment for Lyme disease, related illnesses, and nearly 15 years of dealing with symptoms that weren’t obvious to others.

Last year, Bella shared a heartfelt message, saying she believed her younger, struggling self would be proud of the person she’s become for persevering. She also expressed gratitude to her mother for maintaining her medical history and providing support during challenging times.

Lyme disease is an infection caused by bacteria and spread through the bite of infected ticks, explains the Mayo Clinic. Common symptoms include fever, tiredness, stiff joints, and headaches. If caught early, it can usually be cured with antibiotics, but sometimes symptoms can become long-lasting or come back.

I’ve been so saddened to learn how many people in the public eye are battling Lyme disease. It really opened my eyes when Justin Bieber shared his story, and then Amy Schumer, Ben Stiller, Kelly Osbourne, and Riley Keough all came forward too. Just recently, I was really shocked to hear that Justin Timberlake is also dealing with it. It’s a reminder that this illness can affect anyone, and I’m sending them all my support.

Yolanda ended her message to Bella with a heartfelt and encouraging note. She reminded Bella that even though this illness has been incredibly difficult, they always find the strength to persevere. Yolanda expressed her love and affirmed Bella’s strength, calling her a ‘badass warrior’ and promising they’ll continue to fight for brighter days together.
