Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Features Maitlands Cameo In The Extended Version Of Tim Burton’s Sequel; Makers Reveal Reason Behind Scenes Getting Cut

As a lifestyle expert with a penchant for all things cinema, I must say that the return of Beetlejuice to our screens has been a delightful trip down memory lane. The sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, has certainly lived up to expectations, and the extended version, featuring the Maitlands’ cameo, is an added bonus for die-hard fans.

The movie “Beetlejuice” made its theater debut on September 6th. Although audiences are appreciating the follow-up to the 1988 original, the creators have unveiled an extended cut of the film, featuring a surprise appearance by the Maitlands in the picture.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Alfred Gough and Miles Miller shared their work on a script that included Barbara Maitland in various scenes. Unfortunately, this draft didn’t make it to the final version of the project.

Gough explained, “The Maitlands are an amusing case because we consulted with Tim and exchanged ideas. There was a scenario where they appeared at the end, but since they’re spirits, it was challenging to make them look like they were 35, which wasn’t feasible. Tim, Miles, and I felt that their story had reached its conclusion, so we needed to find a way to progress beyond that.

In the classic film Beetlejuice, it’s revealed that Adam and Maitland tied the knot and, as newlywed bliss turned into tragedy, their car met with an accident, ending their lives. Upon death, they became spirits and were unwillingly made residents of a haunted mansion.

According to the screenwriter, Gough, the primary film is essentially centered around the Maitlands. He emphasized that Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis had a significant role in the story, making it their movie for a considerable part. They were the ones who summoned Beetlejuice against the Deetz family, and he was keen on highlighting them specifically. Gough further added that he wasn’t inclined towards fan service or being overly devoted to replicating the original.

He adds, “So I think he was very much about, how do we tell the next iteration of the story?”

In the second half of the Beetlejuice film, viewers are introduced to some fresh characters. One of these is Jenna Ortega, who takes on the character of Astrid within the storyline, while Arthur Conti plays the role of Jeremy.

“In the storyline of the film, the Deetz family, consisting of three generations, go back to Winter River due to an unforeseen family accident. Despite having moved on from Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life takes a drastic turn when her defiant teenage daughter finds a secret passageway to the afterlife.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is running successfully in theaters.
