As a gamer with over two decades of X-Men fandom under my belt, I can confidently say that the news about Beau DeMayo’s plans for X-Men ’97 is nothing short of heartbreaking. It feels like watching a favorite sports team lose a crucial match, or worse, being kicked out of your own game at the final level.
1997’s X-Men series turned out to be a massive success for Marvel, even amidst challenges during production and alterations to the original series narrative. While numerous factors played a role in its popularity, we won’t delve into each one specifically within this context.
Revisiting the animated series, with its exceptional storyline and animation reminiscent of the original, stirred up fond recollections in those who had previously watched it.
Indeed, this decision to revive the series is clearly justified by the circumstances, even though it’s important to note that a new creative team will be responsible for its production instead of the one behind Season 1. The original creator and showrunner of the remake series, Beau DeMayo, was dismissed due to allegations of sexual misconduct. Since then, he has been involved in an ongoing public dispute with Disney.
In a recent lively Twitter conversation with fans, DeMayo shared some exciting insights into Seasons 2 and 3, along with the show’s upcoming direction. His disclosures encompassed significant character developments, a potentially grim narrative arc, and more – so read on to uncover all the juicy details!
To put it simply, Beau DeMayo played an instrumental role in resurrecting the classic X-Men animated series that was popular in the late 1990s. The show garnered much appreciation from viewers, but unfortunately, DeMayo was let go before its reboot due to accusations of improper sexual conduct.
DeMayo has had ongoing disputes with Disney, a topic we’ve covered previously. However, the focus of our discussion here is the series itself, rather than DeMayo’s disagreement with Disney.
Essentially, it’s clear that Disney preserved DeMayo’s tales for Season 1, but instead of using his completed scripts for Season 2 and nearly Season 3, Disney is currently reworking Season 2. This suggests that DeMayo’s concepts may not be included in the final version.
Based on what was discussed earlier, it came to light that DeMayo had shared some forthcoming plans. These plans appeared to include the characters of Onslaught and Apocalypse.
Observe particularly the instant when they’re fully engulfed by an overwhelming tide of traumatic waters, then the scene abruptly ends.

In a more simplified manner, consider this: At the start of the film, Xavier tells Magneto that the water symbolizes the rage and sorrow he’s harbored over the years. My thought is that Xavier was actually infected throughout the movie via osmosis, and when you notice them being pulled under, it suggests he was already affected.

My plan was all of Season 3 would be AoA. Just to clarify.

They’ve decided to revise the whole season as they destroyed episode 10, which resolved a long-standing mystery throughout the season involving hints and foreshadowing leading to Onslaught. After that was abandoned, Marvel continuously changed their narrative approach and exhausted their team in the process.

It’s quite disheartening that the second season is only 9 episodes due to this decision and the cancellation of my Onslaught/AoA finale. Marvel appears to have a tendency to shoot themselves in the foot, especially with certain directors and executives who cling stubbornly to their “we know best for the comics” mindset.)

It’s clear that the tweets are scattered, yet they contain a wealth of intriguing details. This will undoubtedly make for an engaging analysis when the second season comes out, allowing us to make meaningful comparisons then.
