The future of Doctor Who is currently uncertain. After two seasons, BBC Studios and Disney+ have ended their collaboration on the show. Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu have finished playing the Fifteenth Doctor and Belinda Chandra, and the last episode ended with the Doctor regenerating into a form resembling Rose Tyler. While a Christmas special is planned for 2026, it’s unknown who will play the next Doctor. However, Zai Bennett, CEO of BBC Studios Global Content, has expressed optimism about the show’s future.
Bennett avoided discussing the recent financial losses of the series or how the company planned to recover them. He emphasized their commitment to the future of Doctor Who, saying, “We’re a key part of Doctor Who and everyone is dedicated to ensuring its continued success.” He added that they have a Christmas special coming up, and afterward, they’ll focus on planning the show’s next steps.
It sounds like the show will be continuing for quite a while, which is great news! We’re eager to find out who will be leading the creative side of things, where the story is headed, and what Billie Piper’s appearance means. Hopefully, we’ll have those answers soon, but for now, we know the adventures will continue this year and in the future.
