Stephen Amell, known for his role in the series Arrow, will star in Fox’s new Baywatch series. This is the first actor officially announced for the show’s revival.
In September 2025, the show was ordered for 12 episodes to air during the 2026–2027 season. Filming is scheduled to start this spring in Los Angeles.
Fox will also host an open casting call on February 18 as the network rounds out the ensemble.

Amell To Play Hobie Buchannon
David Amell will play Hobie Buchannon, the former troublemaker from the original show, now an adult taking on a leadership position.
Hobie is now a Baywatch Captain, just like his famous father, Mitch Buchannon. David Hasselhoff originally played Mitch and made the character a pop culture icon.
Hobie’s peaceful life is disrupted when he unexpectedly meets Charlie, the daughter he didn’t know he had. She’s eager to follow in the family tradition and become a Baywatch lifeguard, hoping to work with her father.

Showrunner Praises Amell
Matt Nix, the showrunner, was very happy with the casting of Stephen Amell, explaining that he immediately brought the perfect qualities for this new take on ‘Baywatch’. Amell has the heart, intensity, and heroic presence the role needs, and he can convincingly play both the action and the emotional depth while keeping the show enjoyable. The team is eager to begin filming.
Stephen Amell has experience with both physically challenging roles and starring in long-running TV shows, which makes him well-suited for a series known for its action, rescues, and compelling characters.

A Look Back At Hobie And The Original Series
Hobie Buchannon was a character on the original Baywatch series, played by both Brandon Call and Jeremy Jackson during its run.
Originally airing on NBC in 1989, Baywatch only lasted one season on the network before moving to syndication. This change turned out to be incredibly successful. The show went on to run for 11 seasons, totaling almost 250 episodes, and became one of the most popular TV shows worldwide.
During its last two seasons, the show relocated to Hawaii and was renamed Baywatch: Hawaii. A reunion movie then aired on Fox in 2003.
After more than thirty years, the classic show Baywatch is being rebooted, with actor Stephen Amell taking on the role previously associated with Mitch Buchannon.
With production starting soon and casting underway, expect more announcements in the coming weeks.
