The announcement was made Thursday at ComicsPro 2025.
DC revealed the following art and preview.
What are the details?
In September, the highly-anticipated debut issue of “Batman” written by Matt Fraction and illustrated by Jorge Jimenez will hit the shelves, featuring vibrant colors by Tomeu Morey and precise lettering by Clayton Cowles.
In September, Fraction, Jimenez, Morey, and Cowles are set to launch an exciting series of tales starring Batman. These stories will be linked yet self-contained, offering a unique adventure in each issue. Each installment guarantees a fresh challenge for Batman and showcases the individual artistic flair of the creative team.
At the event, Fraction expressed that he wouldn’t exist in this context without Batman, as he was the first comic book he ever read. He and Jorge have a unique perspective on Batman, filled with superhero elements. They’ve introduced a new Batmobile, a new costume, new characters, as well as some familiar faces – both good and bad. Their goal is to honor all aspects of Batman, making him the most iconic character in comics.
In a heartfelt statement, Jiménez expressed how this project has been a long-held dream for him as an artist in the DC universe. Working alongside the gifted Matt was beyond exciting for him. Regarding his work on Batman, he’s invested countless hours over the years into perfecting this series. He’s had to adapt to diverse styles and tempos working with James and Chip, finding each step both a learning and enjoyable experience. Through his journey, he’s examined Gotham City from various perspectives, but more crucially, he’s honed and developed an ever-evolving set of artistic tools that have culminated in the current blend of his unique style.
Jiménez shared his plans for a refreshed look in this upcoming chapter. He’s bringing back Batman’s iconic blue suit with a modern twist, ensuring it feels both familiar and innovative. Simultaneously, he’s reimagining Gotham City’s visual style, aiming for a fresh take that distinguishes it from his past work. There will be a hint of pop culture influence, a subtle homage to classic tales while maintaining the dark and foreboding atmosphere synonymous with today’s Batman.
Fraction noted that one reason Batman has endured for so long and made such a significant impact is because he’s extremely tough and adaptable. He can represent various aspects to diverse audiences, be it in comic books, cartoons, or films.
What is the new costume?
In a fresh new design, Batman will don a blue and gray suit, sport a revamped Bat emblem, drive a brand-new Batmobile, and bring about a transformed appearance for the city of Gotham.
