Warner Bros. Discovery is potentially up for sale, attracting interest from companies like Skydance – Paramount, Netflix, Apple, and Amazon, so many people – not just fans of Zack Snyder – are watching closely.
A potential sale could open the door for another return: the team behind The Dark Knight Trilogy.
Writer David S. Goyer recently told Brandon Davis that he would only come back to work on a Batman project if director Christopher Nolan was involved – similar to Christian Bale’s stance.

Goyer Says He’d Return “100%” If Nolan Had an Idea
During an interview, Davis shared that Bale, while promoting *Thor: Love and Thunder*, said he’d only consider returning as Batman if director Christopher Nolan was involved. Goyer agreed, stating he had the same understanding.
Goyer stated he’d definitely be open to working on another film if Chris Nolan approached him, saying, “Absolutely, 100%.” However, he emphasized that *The Dark Knight Rises* was always intended as the conclusive ending to the story. He revealed that the final scene-Bruce Wayne and Alfred meeting in Italy-was the very first idea Nolan and Goyer developed when planning the third movie.
In talking about the scene, Goyer also happens to confirm that the scene wasn’t a dream sequence.
Goyer explained that the powerful ending of *The Dark Knight Rises* was specifically crafted to conclude Bruce Wayne’s story. He said they started with that final moment, stating, “We knew that was a story worth telling, even before we figured out the rest of the movie.”
Goyer Acknowledges a Sequel Would Be a Massive Gamble
Goyer acknowledged that changing the ending would be a major risk, something Davis also agreed with, calling it a ‘crazy gamble.’ They didn’t propose any specific story ideas, but they did discuss a possible future storyline – perhaps similar to *Kingdom Come* – that would feature older versions of the characters.
Davis suggested a film starring Christian Bale and Henry Cavill might be possible in about 30 years, but he honestly wasn’t sure what the story would be.
Just like with *The Dark Knight Trilogy*, writer Dan Goyer is curious to see how Marvel handles Iron Man in their upcoming *Avengers: Doomsday*. Although Tony Stark died in *Avengers: Endgame*, Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the role.
Even if Christopher Nolan were to consider making another *Dark Knight* movie, Christian Bale and David Goyer are both willing to return. Perhaps a well-funded studio could help turn that possibility into a reality.
