Batman and Deadpool Unite: Epic DC/Marvel Crossover One-Shots Coming Soon!

Recently, it was announced that DC Comics and Marvel Comics would team up for a collaborative crossover event after more than two decades. This joint venture will be showcased through two special issues. Back then, details were scarce, but now they’ve been revealed. The first-ever DC/Marvel crossover will center around Batman and Deadpool, with each comic published by a different company: Marvel Comics for “Deadpool/Batman” and DC Comics for “Batman/Deadpool.” Here’s what we currently know about the highly anticipated Marvel-DC crossover.

Marvel Comics’ Deadpool/Batman Is Coming in September

In this upcoming Marvel one-shot, Deadpool will embark on a mission that brings him face-to-face with the legendary detective, none other than Batman. Written by Zeb Wells, known for his work on Amazing Spider-Man, and illustrated by popular Batman artist Greg Capullo, this exciting Deadpool/Batman comic is set to hit shelves on September 17th.

In addition to the primary Batman vs Deadpool one-shot, there’s also a series of supplementary tales in store, showcasing thrilling encounters between popular Marvel and DC characters. At this point, specifics about these adventures are still under wraps. Here’s what writer Zeb Wells shared about the upcoming crossover issue (via Entertainment Weekly):

Following 60 issues of writing “The Amazing Spider-Man,” I informed Marvel that I needed a break. However, their proposal to create a comic featuring Deadpool and Batman, illustrated by one of the greatest Batman artists around, immediately made me reconsider my need for rest. In Batman, we discovered a character who dislikes Deadpool’s mischief even more than Wolverine, but an imminent citywide threat from the Joker forces these unlikely allies together. Literally speaking, if Deadpool had his way, they would have shared more than just a partnership – it’s been an exciting ride letting Deadpool run amok in Gotham City and witnessing the chaos that ensued.

Greg Capullo, the artist renowned for his exceptional work on Scott Snyder’s iconic Batman series, shared his thoughts on collaborating on the Deadpool/Batman project.

Is this a dream? This collaboration might just be the pinnacle of my professional journey…and I’ve had quite an impressive career, as it is,” the artist writes in an email. “I reminisce on some of my earliest work (many years ago), which was on X-Force, so Deadpool and I share a long history. Lately, I’ve been drawing Batman at DC for over a decade. The thought that I get to do a crossover event with Deadpool and Batman…If I am dreaming, I hope this never ends!

DC Comics’ Batman/Deadpool Comic Arrives in November

In the upcoming month of November, DC Comics plans to release Batman/Deadpool issue number 1. Notably, this comic book will be penned by renowned writer Grant Morrison, and the artwork is being created by Dan Mora, who has previously worked on Justice League Unlimited.

In his own words, here’s what a renowned Batman author, Morrison, expressed about revisiting the Dark Knight for this exceptional occasion:

Morrison, an esteemed Batman author, shared his thoughts on coming back to the Dark Knight for this special event. Here’s what he had to say:

Or, in a more colloquial style:

Check out what Morrison, one of the best Batman writers ever, had to spill about diving back into the Dark Knight for this one-of-a-kind occasion:

Currently, I’m not involved in many comic projects these days, but the opportunity to collaborate with Dan Mora once more, a beloved artistic partner from my past, was simply irresistible. Adding to that, who could resist working on both Batman and Deadpool? So, brace yourselves for some fourth-wall-breaking chaos, owls, bloodshed, blades, and at least one colossal typewriter!

As a passionate cinephile, I’ve been intrigued by Morrison’s cryptic statement – could it be “owls”? If so, does this hint at an epic showdown between Wade Wilson and Bruce Wayne against the formidable Court of Owls? Or perhaps Batman’s dark doppelganger, the Owlman? The realm of possibilities is vast. Here’s what Dan Mora shared about the thrill of delving into the stories of these iconic superheroes together:

“I can’t express how excited I am to bring these two titans of the comic world together in one story! The opportunity to work with such legendary characters is a dream come true, and I can’t wait for fans to see what we have in store!

This achievement in my career surpasses any expectations I had, and it’s an immense privilege to contribute to this unique collaboration. Such occurrences don’t happen frequently, and as an ardent Deadpool enthusiast, I’m thrilled beyond words! When I initially collaborated with Grant, I wasn’t sure what to anticipate, but it turned out to be a remarkable partnership. Ever since then, I’ve yearned for another opportunity to work alongside him, and the prospect of working on “Batman/Deadpool” feels like a dream realized. Working together with Grant on this one-of-a-kind project promises to be an exciting journey.

We Are Crossing Our Fingers for More DC and Marvel Comics Crossovers

Is it possible that there will be further collaborations between DC and Marvel? Here’s to hoping this isn’t the last time these universes collide! Frankly, it’s high time we saw a Justice League/X-Men comic – something we’ve yet to experience.
