Barry Keoghan Teases Possible Return of His Joker in ‘The Batman Part II’: “It would be exciting, wouldn’t it”

As a die-hard Batman fan with years of comic book lore etched into my memory, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Barry Keoghan will indeed return as the Joker in “The Batman Part II”. His enigmatic performance in the first film was a breath of fresh air, and the tantalizing hints he’s been dropping about his potential return have me on the edge of my seat.

Work on ‘The Batman Sequel’ is progressing quite well right now. There was a slight setback with a delay of almost a year, but we’re consistently getting updates about its progress.

In a new turn of events for the Batman series, Robert Pattinson is slated to resume his character as Bruce Wayne. Zoë Kravitz will continue her portrayal of Selina Kyle, famously known as Catwoman. Andy Serkis is set to reappear as Alfred Pennyworth, who serves as both loyal butler and trusted advisor to Bruce Wayne. Colin Farrell is coming back to embody the Penguin, enriching this fresh chapter in the Batman universe. Although much of the cast was decided upon months prior, there’s still some ambiguity regarding Barry Keoghan’s role as The Joker.

In the movie “The Batman” (2022), Keoghan portrayed a character who was not shown to be in Arkham Prison beforehand. However, later on, director Matt Reeves disclosed that this figure was actually the Joker. A bonus scene featuring Keoghan’s Joker encountering Robert Pattinson’s Batman was unveiled by Warner Bros. on March 24, 2022, a few weeks following the film’s debut, and it garnered positive feedback from fans.

About a year back, Collider announced that Keoghan might replay his character as the Joker in the forthcoming sequel, however, no studio confirmation was given afterwards. More recently, Variety questioned Keoghan regarding his part in the movie, and though he didn’t explicitly say yes, he also didn’t deny it. Fans are guessing that Keoghan’s Joker could have a smaller role in “The Batman Part II,” but may take on a more significant part in “The Batman III” if that film is produced.

“Let’s proceed with that then!” I don’t have much more to add at the moment. The camera seems to be focused on me directly. We’ll see how things unfold from here. It was truly an extraordinary encounter… but as always, there are certain things I can’t disclose.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen hints from this actor about coming back. About half a year ago, he provided a similar evasive comment to Vanity Fair, neither confirming nor denying the whispers. Considering the mystery surrounding his character, there’s a good chance he will reappear, perhaps even in a brief role.

Keoghan has expressed that it would be exciting to revisit the Batman universe.

I can’t really say anything about that, my man, but it would be exciting, wouldn’t it? To see The Joker come to life again.”

The second installment of “The Batman,” titled “The Batman – Part II,” is scheduled to hit theaters on October 2, 2026. Director Matt Reeves has dropped hints about several main antagonists for the sequel, which could potentially introduce the Court of Owls as new screen characters, fueling excitement among fans.
