Barbie Ferreira Breaks Silence on Leaving Euphoria And Reveals WHY It Was ‘Best For Both’ to End It

Barbie Ferreira speaks out on her departure from HBO’s Euphoria, ending any lingering speculation as production for the much-anticipated third season officially starts.

Ferreira, known for portraying beloved character Katherine “Kat” Hernandez in Euphoria, clarified that her departure wasn’t a dramatic one as some stories implied. Instead, she explained that her parting from the show was amicable and a mutual decision between herself and the producers, putting an end to any speculation about the circumstances of her exit.

On The Viall Files podcast, Ferreira expressed, “Rather than me sticking around for nine months, I believe it was healthier for us both to call it quits then and there.

Indeed, it’s challenging, yet I adore Euphoria, specifically Kat. Kat holds immense significance in my life. Over the years, I’ve invested so much of myself into her, but it feels like you don’t want to spoil something wonderful.” She concluded with that thought.

In August 2022, her departure was anticipated after a series of whispers grew louder due to allegations of backstage friction and accusations that she left the set in anger due to artistic disagreements with the show’s creator, Sam Levinson.

Ferreira firmly denied these claims, saying, “The show is well-known, so rumors spread easily— I never left the set. There was never an incident like that. It was all speculation, ‘She did this,’ and I replied, ‘I unequivocally didn’t do that.’ You can inquire with the hundreds of people who were there every day.

She also noted that most fan theories are bizarre and taken out of context, often being incorrect.

Instead of persisting with a storyline that seemed stagnant, Ferreira articulated that leaving the show was advantageous for all involved parties. Although saying goodbye to a character she cherished and had devoted much time and emotion to was difficult, she emphasized that prolonging her stay could have potentially harmed Kat’s narrative progression.

Ferreira explained that the choice was a collective one, indicating there weren’t many paths left to follow in Kat’s storyline. Although it was somewhat sad, she acknowledged the nature of an acting profession, where shifts and unforeseen events are inherent to the experience.

It was a joint agreement, not something I made alone. All parties involved came to the conclusion that… there were no other options, and that’s tough since I found myself wondering, ‘What’s next for me?’ Yet, in the world of acting, circumstances change frequently, and one must adapt and make wise choices for their career,” Ferreira expressed.

The production of Euphoria Season 3 officially commenced in February.
