Bannerlord devs reveal map expansion for War Sails DLC

In their recent announcement, TaleWorlds Entertainment has shared some details about the content that awaits players in the upcoming DLC titled “War Sails” for the game “Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord“. Apart from the addition of ships and naval battles, the expansion also promises a significant enlargement of the game’s world map.

In the upcoming expansion, the war-ravaged land of Calradia will expand towards the North, West, and East. To the North lies Nordvyg, resembling Scandinavia in Europe with its icy mountains, rugged coastline, and forested valleys. West of Nordvyg is a smaller island called Beinland, while the mighty Jumne river flows eastward, leading towards Khuzait and Empire territories before emptying into Laconis and Tanaesis lakes. These waterways provide ideal paths for ambitious Norsemen, whether they seek trade or plunder.

In the process, certain rivers depicted on the map are expanded, thereby creating additional navigable water paths across the continent. Consequently, a few urban areas have been moved due to their desire to be near the maritime trade opportunities that these waterways provide.

Indeed, introducing water as a means for accessing and supplying cities significantly alters the strategy in this game. Now, imposing and maintaining naval blockades becomes crucial for a victorious siege. Breaking these blockades could potentially spell disaster for a campaign.

As a ship enthusiast, I can tell you that vessels can be purchased, traded, and customized with additional components at harbors that suit our needs. It’s remarkable how we can dock almost anywhere, excluding certain rugged coastlines. From there, we have the option to return to our base or summon our fleet to a coastal town boasting a harbor. If my journeys on land take me too far from the landing sites, I can always rely on this convenient feature.

Navigating on the water requires consideration of wind, currents, ship types, and their equipment, as these factors significantly impact movement. This means that when pursuing or being pursued over water, one must pay close attention to these variables. Weather conditions, such as storms, can drastically alter your plans on the open sea, potentially sinking your vessels and leaving you stranded on rafts for an unceremonious shore landing, with potential loss of crew and supplies.

War Sails is expected to reach port in Fall 2025.
