Wilhelmina for PvE
WPQ Wilhelmina’s role: a buffer for Iron Monarch
Wilhelmina’s speciality is dealing ridiculously high damage to single targets.
In simpler terms, Princess Iron Monarch, Wilhelmina, boasts the highest initial strike count in the game – she strikes a total of 12 times, matching Hikage (who has limitations). The ability to stack chains with multiple hits is crucial as it awards an additional 10% damage for each chain stack during the same turn. When fully upgraded to +5 potential, Wilhelmina’s skill results in 12 strikes dealing 95% damage each, making her a highly effective attacker in the game.
Queen Wilhelmina, the ruler of the Water Park, enhances Iron Monarch’s ability to stack chains by providing a chain strength boost. This chain strength boost adds one additional chain for each attack. By initially empowering with Queen Wilhelmina and then attacking with Iron Monarch, you will accumulate a total of 24 chains.
As a dedicated gamer, let me share my insights: If you layer on PWB Refi’s chain reinforcement buff, Iron Monarch will amass an impressive 3 chains with each strike, totaling a whopping 36 chains. This makes Wilhelmina the uncontested champion in single-target chain stacking within our game. Moreover, Wilhelmina’s chain stacking prowess propels her to the top as the best single-target attacker in the game, outshining even Curse Celia who accumulates 24 chains when bolstered by PWB Refi and MB Celia. Of course, Celia’s area of effect is wider (3×3), making her a superior choice for AOE chain stacking.
WPQ Wilhelmina as an attacker
Water Park’s Queen Wilhelmina dishes out quite impressive damage, reaching up to 9 times 90%, but her damage isn’t nearly as powerful as Iron Monarch Wilhelmina, who can deal up to 12 times 95%.
In summary, during challenging end-game scenarios, your primary strategy should be to employ WPQ as a protective shield and rely on Iron Monarch for attacks. Notably, enhancing your costume level from +3 to +4 extends the duration of WPQ’s buff by two additional turns (one player turn), enabling you to utilize WPQ less frequently and maximize the usage of Iron Monarch instead.
WPQ offers an advantage with a slightly expanded reach (approximately three tiles) compared to Iron Monarch, which only extends one tile. Although this extended range might be useful in story mode on occasion, it generally won’t alter the fact that Wilhelmina is primarily designed for handling individual adversaries.
In such a scenario, should we encounter a boss with a Vulnerability in the form of a weak spot, Wilhelmina is likely to shine, as there aren’t many characters specializing in water attacks capable of exploiting this specific weakness at present.
How good is Iron Monarch Wilhelmina’s damage now?
It can be challenging to determine Iron Monarch Wilhelmina’s effective power post-WPQ buff, as the impact varies based on the number of chains already accumulated before she strikes. This is due to the fact that each additional chain stack results in decreasing benefits, or what we call ‘diminishing returns.’ Here are two scenarios illustrating this concept:
Scenario 1: If Wilhelmina attacks when there are no chain stacks, her power will be at its maximum potential.
Scenario 2: However, if she strikes after several chain stacks have been accumulated, the benefits from each additional stack will be less than those from the previous one, demonstrating diminishing returns.
If Iron Monarch is your initial attacker this round and she has two chain reinforcement buffs (from Water Park Wilhelmina and PWB Refi), her effective damage multiplier amounts to approximately 3,021%. This means that her 12 x 95% skill inflicts the same amount of damage as a single hit with a power of 1 x 3,021%.
You can see how the damage of each of her 12 hits is calculated using the table below:
Chain multiplier | Skill damage | Total damage |
1.0x | 95% | 95.0% |
1.3x | 95% | 123.5% |
1.6x | 95% | 152.0% |
1.9x | 95% | 180.5% |
2.2x | 95% | 209.0% |
2.5x | 95% | 237.5% |
2.8x | 95% | 266.0% |
3.1x | 95% | 294.5% |
3.4x | 95% | 323.0% |
3.7x | 95% | 351.5% |
4.0x | 95% | 380.0% |
4.3x | 95% | 408.5% |
TOTAL | 3,021% |
In my experience, running Iron Monarch Wilhelmina without Liberta in end game content isn’t typical. Here’s why: Onsen Manager Liberta offers a potent damage amplification buff that becomes active once you’ve amassed at least 10 chains on the enemy. So, when facing off against an opponent, it would be strategic to accumulate 10 chains prior to engaging with Wilhelmina. This way, I can maximize the damage amplification buff that Liberta provides, enhancing my overall performance in battle.
In this scenario, the Iron Monarch launches an attack following you having piled up 10 chains on your opponent using a prior attacker. If the Iron Monarch is benefiting from two chain reinforcement buffs, one each from Water Park Wilhelmina and PWB Refi, the damage multiplier resulting from considering chain damage amounts to approximately 2,081 times.
In the given situation, Iron Monarch’s cumulative damage amounts to 4,161%, which is equivalent to delivering a single hit with a 2,081% attack boost (multiplied by 2 due to 10 chain stacks, resulting in a 2.0x damage increase) applied priorly.
Chain multiplier | Skill damage | Total damage |
2.0x | 95 | 190.0% |
2.3x | 95 | 218.5% |
2.6x | 95 | 247.0% |
2.9x | 95 | 275.5% |
3.2x | 95 | 304.0% |
3.5x | 95 | 332.5% |
3.8x | 95 | 361.0% |
4.1x | 95 | 389.5% |
4.4x | 95 | 418.0% |
4.7x | 95 | 446.5% |
5.0x | 95 | 475.0% |
5.3x | 95 | 503.5% |
TOTAL | 4,161% |
Regardless of the approach, Wilhelmina’s single-target damage is extraordinarily potent, as demonstrated in my calculations to prevent any misrepresentation of her power.
PvE Game Modes
Wilhelmina, with an exceptionally high number of hits, is a great fit for the game Last Night since it primarily uses chain stacks for damage multiplication. However, do keep in mind that her WPQ chain boost will only affect WPQ’s own attack and won’t transfer to Iron Monarch.
Wilhelmina excels in battles requiring significant single-target damage output. She synergizes exceptionally with characters such as Zenith, Blade, and Eris, who can boost single-target damage and chain effects. However, it’s important to note that she is not effective in dealing area-of-effect damage to clear groups of enemies or against fiends with multiple vulnerabilities.
Wilhelmina for PvP
Wilhelmina costs 4 Strategy Points (SP), suggesting that developers intended her to be excluded from Player versus Player (PVP) combat. This high price tag doesn’t seem justified in PVP, especially considering Kendo Club Justia offers the same Area of Effect (AOE) for just half the cost (2 SP).
Wilhelmina is not recommended for PVP.
Wilhelmina’s Exclusive Gear
As a fan of Wilhelmina, I appreciate the boost her unique equipment provides, such as the 90% crit damage bonus. However, it’s not essential for her performance. Given her specific uses, which are limited to single-target scenarios, her exclusive gear is more of a luxury than a necessity. Unless your goal is to excel in PVE and achieve high rankings, it might not be wise to pull for her unique equipment.
Conclusion
In essence, Wilhelmina introduces a fresh Fated Guest interaction. Consequently, it’s worth obtaining at least one version of her. After all, who could pass up the chance to have our queen on your side?
In terms of gameplay, whether having additional copies proves useful depends on your interest in character Iron Monarch Wilhelmina and your pursuit of top scores in challenging end-game content against single target bosses. One copy is quite effective at enhancing Iron Monarch’s power, but to achieve high rankings, four copies are needed as they unlock an extra buff turn, allowing you to use Iron Monarch more frequently.
If you haven’t yet invested in Iron Monarch Wilhelmina, it might be wiser to avoid making significant investments in WPQ Wilhelmina, as its high price tag doesn’t align well with its more specialized applications.
