Banner Guide – The Void Granhildr (rerun)

Official Patch Notes

Overview

Returning idol Granhildr has secured a top position in Player vs Player battles. Her equipment, now enhanced by The Void, further bolsters her abilities and completes her outfit rotation.

Granhildr, the returning idol, is dominating PVP matches. The Void’s upgrades expand her weaponry and round off her costume changes.

Can easily do lethal damage against low DEF enemies

Counter buff does not expire until attacked

Low SP cost compared to Comeback Idol

Not good outside of PVP

– Builds with strong Defense/Magic Resistance have poor compatibility due to the scaling of the counter-damage, which is proportional to the damage received.

Or more informally:

– High DEF/M.RES builds don’t mix well because the counterattack power depends on the damage taken.

Weak against Zenith and buff removers

Granhildr for PVE

In short, Granhildr is not good for PVE, but I’ll set out below the reasons and calculations.

In Player vs Environment (PVE), the pre-emptive activation feature for The Void Granhildr isn’t particularly useful because the player usually acts before it. What truly matters in PVE scenarios is Granhildr’s damage output.

Because the Void counter ability overlaps with energy shield, Gran’s potential counter attack power is relatively high. With Comeback Idol at level 5, Gran essentially increases her HP fourfold. A fully equipped Gran, wearing both outfits at level 5 and having 30,000 HP, could theoretically inflict up to 497,999 physical damage – this figure doesn’t include critical damage or property damage boosts yet.

Let’s consider Android Queen Lecliss +5, who inflicts 40% of her maximum health points with each strike. If her maximum health is 30,000, she can deal a reflective blow of 12,000 per hit. For instance, when facing an opponent who attacks seven times, Lecliss effectively repels 84,000 physical damage in total (prior to chain reactions, critical hits, etc.).

In other words, Gran’s potential for causing damage is significant, but she can only achieve this optimal level when facing an opponent whose damage is nearly lethal yet stops short of killing Gran, allowing her to establish her energy shield first. Fine-tuning her equipment will be crucial to make the enemy’s attacks land at that ideal balance.

Moreover, Grandma’s ability has a significant cool-down period (5 turns), limiting its frequent use per turn. It also targets only a single square and doesn’t allow you to leverage ATK boosts or chain damage effects. Consequently, while Grandma can deal substantial damage in specific scenarios, she may not be the ideal choice for PVE combat due to her limitations.

Granhildr for PVP

As an avid gamer, I can’t help but be captivated by the game-changing presence of Granhildr in the PVP arena. This comeback idol has become a defining element of the competitive scene, and it seems every strategic attack team is now centered around finding ways to counter her might.

Instead of The Void significantly affecting PVP, it barely does compared to other elements. The Void primarily boosts your existing Comeback Idol’s power, and it’s suggested due to the strength of the Comeback Idol. However, on its own, The Void is not essential for PVP battles.

As a gamer, I’ve found that utilizing The Void on my opening turn can target enemies with lower defense who might attack her without inflicting fatal damage. Most of these low-defense foes will perish if they strike her with a standard or multi-hit attack. However, it requires a bit of luck to make this strategy work effectively. If Gran is stationed in the front row, she may fall victim to defense-stripping abilities from Schera or Eleaneer. Conversely, positioning Gran in the second row leaves her vulnerable to wasting her counterattack against Zenith, who deals minimal damage in six hits. As a result, Gran isn’t very consistent, and I’d rate Comeback Idol higher overall.

Utilizing The Void after Turn 1 is beneficial as it offers an opportunity to reverse the tide in later stages of the game. Since the Void’s counter expires based on the number of hits, not turns, you can combine it with Comeback Idol for impressive outcomes. Without The Void, if Gran survives Turn 1, she essentially loses her ability to fight back effectively in the late game. However, when equipped with The Void, Gran gains genuine offensive capabilities that significantly improve her chances of winning a 1v1 battle up until the final moments.

Conclusion

Having the Void in addition to your investment in Comeback Idol Granhildr is beneficial, as it enhances Granhildr’s overall PVP effectiveness. The Void can serve as a surprising tactic early on, catching opponents off guard when they anticipate Comeback Idol. Furthermore, it provides Granhildr with offensive capabilities beyond Turn 1, allowing her to contribute more actively in combat, rather than being passive until her Comeback Idol cooldown is reset.

In less competitive Player versus Player (PvP) scenarios, The Void doesn’t offer much practical use, making it advisable to prioritize other investments over it.
