Alec for PVE
In the world of Brown Dust 1, Alec was known as one of the Six Devils and was established as a very strong character. However, in the sequel, Brown Dust 2, his abilities don’t seem to live up to that original reputation.
Alec’s attacks always deal a set amount of damage, similar to Justia and Disciplinary Committee Glacia. This fixed damage bypasses enemy defense, magic resistance, and damage reduction abilities, but it can’t result in critical hits. This lack of critical hits is a significant drawback in PvE, as critical damage is a major source of power in PvE – with the right equipment and support, it typically increases your overall damage by eight to ten times.
Alec can seem strong when you first start playing, but his effectiveness drops significantly once you get better gear focused on critical hit rate and damage. Once you build up those stats, he quickly becomes less useful.
When fighting tough enemies in story mode who have high defense or magic resistance, it’s best to use a powerful attacker alongside a character who can lower enemy defense or magic resistance, such as Elise, Samay, or Kry. If the enemy reduces your damage, pair a strong attacker with someone who can remove buffs, like Schera or Eleaneer.
Alec’s attacks only affect a small area, making him ineffective at quickly defeating groups of enemies in regular battles or targeting multiple weak spots during challenging events like fiend hunts and guild raids. Because of this, he isn’t a strong character for player-versus-environment content.
Alec for PVP
Although Alec is weak in PVE, he is quite strong in Mirror Wars PVP.
In Mirror Wars, dealing fixed damage is particularly effective because many enemies have very high defense – often around 90%. Alec stands out because of his naturally high attack power combined with a powerful skill that multiplies damage by 900% (3 x 300%). This allows him to potentially defeat most enemies in a single turn. Plus, he’s very affordable at only 2 SP. His alternate costume, Destruction Alec, also focuses on high fixed damage, making Alec a consistently strong choice.
Alec starts with a high attack stat, and with the right equipment, he can easily exceed 3,000 attack. At 3,000 attack, his Sword Breaker skill deals 29,700 fixed damage – meaning enemy defenses don’t matter – before considering any elemental advantages.
When used with Homunculus Lathel (who boosts attack by 160%), Sword Breaker Alec deals a massive 77,220 fixed damage, completely bypassing enemy elemental defenses. This is usually enough to instantly defeat any opponent who isn’t shielded by an energy guard.
However, Alec does have a number of downsides.
Alec has a tough time against characters who use strong energy shields. Right now, several popular costumes – like Comeback Idol Granhildr, Android Queen Lecliss, Dark Knight Lathel, and Red Hood Rou – all heavily rely on these shields, and Alec struggles to overcome them. The increasing use of Lathel and Rou, in particular, is a key reason why players are choosing Alec and Justia less often in Mirror Wars.
Alec’s area of effect (AOE) isn’t very strong, only hitting up to three tiles. Because his AOE reaches diagonally to the right, he needs to be positioned in the leftmost column to effectively hit multiple enemies. If he’s placed in the right column, he’ll usually only damage one target, which severely restricts where you can use him.
Also, Alec struggles against Water-type Pokémon with a lot of health. Right now, that means he has trouble with Glacia, Teresse, Morphea, and sometimes Granadair.
Alec is a powerful fighter in player-versus-player battles, but how often he’s used in competitive play depends on how many players are using characters who focus on high health and energy shielding. Right now, a lot of players are using those types of characters, which has made Alec less common.
Alec is a solid pick in Golden Colosseum if you need consistent, high damage. However, his attacks don’t affect a very large area, so players usually prefer costumes that offer wider coverage.
Exclusive Gear
Alec’s exclusive weapon grants more ATK, which is precisely the stat that Alec needs the most of.
Currently, Alec isn’t one of the strongest units in any game mode, so we don’t recommend spending resources on his special gear. However, if you’re using Alec in competitive PvP, his exclusive weapon can be worthwhile. The added attack power might be just enough to turn a near-miss into a winning hit.
Conclusion
Alec isn’t a great investment overall. While he excels in player-versus-player (PVP) combat, his damage in player-versus-environment (PVE) is low because his main attack can’t deliver critical hits. His biggest weakness is struggling against opponents who use strong energy guard abilities. Currently, both Alec and Justia are less popular because characters like Dark Knight Lathel and Red Hood Rou, who effectively counter fixed-damage attacks, are frequently chosen.
The developers have stated they don’t plan to add any new male characters, so Alec won’t be getting any power-ups through additional outfits in the future.
