Angelica for PVE
Initially, Angelica stood out as a highly versatile character for Player vs Environment (PVE) battles. Regrettably, her effectiveness has diminished due to power creep, making her now among the less powerful light attackers compared to others who have significantly stronger light attacks.
In a nutshell, Angelica stands out due to the fact that each of her costumes inflicts damage proportional to an enemy’s Maximum Health Percentage. When fully enhanced, Pool Party Angelica delivers a whopping 3 times 29%, which equals approximately 95.7% of an enemy’s Max HP (including chain damage). This base skill damage, however, is just shy of being fatal. Consequently, Angelica cannot completely wipe out an enemy with full health unless she critically hits. It’s crucial to optimize her for high critical damage.
In simpler terms, it’s important to note that Angelica’s maximum health (HP) is limited to 30,000HP for damage calculations, a detail not explicitly mentioned in her skill description. This restriction applies across all of her costumes when calculating skills based on Max HP. As you progress through challenging story chapters and events like the current one, you’ll notice that many enemies exceed this limit, with bosses often having over 800,000 HP and their mobs having more than 200,000 HP. Notably, high-level fiends and guild raid bosses usually have HP in the billions.
In a confrontation with an adversary boasting 30,000 HP or more, the fully optimized Angelica inflicts approximately 28,710 damage (including chain damage), without considering critical damage or property damage. This is quite impressive in terms of raw damage output, particularly when compared to other widely used light attackers with moderate Attack and Magic Attack stats.
- Sacred Justia with 2,500 ATK against 7 targets deals 25,000 damage.
- Queen of Signatures Michaela with 2,500 M.ATK deals 32,175 damage (inc chain damage).
In the game, despite Angelica’s raw damage appearing promising, it’s crucial to note that her main disadvantage lies in the fact that HP-based damage does not get enhanced by Magic Attack (M.ATK) boosts. For high-level content, being able to combine various buffs is vital for dealing substantial damage. Unfortunately, Angelica’s inability to receive M.ATK buffs puts her at a significant disadvantage compared to other powerful light attackers in end game content due to this limitation.
Despite being used less frequently, Angelica can still be found on Lv10+ dark fiend hunt teams in the third position. Since the top two teams typically utilize your strongest M.ATK buffers, the disadvantage of using Angelica on your third team might not be as significant if you don’t have any available M.ATK buffers for that team to begin with.
In terms of gameplay, Angelica stands out as an excellent pick outside of demon-hunting missions, particularly for progressing through the storyline. She offers good area-of-effect (AOE) damage, decent overall damage output, and enough toughness to hold a front-line position, withstanding several attacks.
Angelica for PVP
Angelica struggles in PVP for a number of reasons, and is not recommended.
Firstly, her cost (4 SP) is way too high for the impact.
Secondly, she finds it challenging to eliminate anything unless she has a critical hit success. This situation often requires either equipping her with gear for a 100% critical hit rate (which may reduce her damage and survivability), or teaming her up with a character who can boost her critical hit rate like B.Helena. However, if Helena perishes, Angelica becomes significantly weaker.
To effectively eliminate enemies, she often needs to score a critical hit. This means either using equipment to ensure a 100% critical hit chance (which may impact her overall strength), or having a teammate like B.Helena who can increase her chances of scoring a critical hit. But if Helena dies, Angelica becomes noticeably weaker.
In third place, Angelica’s attacks are less effective against Energy Shields (HP protections), damage reduction, and high magical resistance. Unfortunately for Angelica, these characteristics are frequently encountered in top-tier PvP battles. For instance, RH.Rou, CI.Granhildr, and AQ.Lecliss all have strong Energy Shields. Additionally, character builds with 90% magical resistance gear are very common.
Fourthly, while Angelica typically appears to be robust due to her high HP and significant damage reduction, it’s regrettable that numerous prominent characters can effectively counter her. Characters like PP.Schera, PMB.Eleaneer remove buffs; Justia and DC.Glacia inflict fixed damage; and Empress Rubia and DJ.Venaka reduce her resistance to magic or physical attacks, making it relatively easy for them to defeat Angelica.
Angelica’s exclusive weapon
In simpler terms, Angelica’s unique weapon enhances her critical damage significantly, which is the stat she benefits from most. However, it isn’t essential for using her effectively. Given that Angelica doesn’t stand out as a top-tier character in any game mode, it’s not advised to prioritize investing in her exclusive weapon.
Conclusion
Over time, Pool Party Angelica has significantly evolved since her first introduction in the game. In its early stages, Pool Party Angelica was widely recognized as an extremely versatile costume for Player vs Environment (PVE) battles. However, currently, she is not deemed effective in any game mode and it seems unlikely that this will change unless there’s another balance adjustment from the developers.
