Lathel compared with other ATK buffers

As a gamer, I’ve got a hefty ATK (Attack) boost right from the get-go, but that power drop significantly on my second and third turns.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but emphasize that Lathel stands out as an essential ATK buffer in our favorite game. Here’s a comparison of the ATK buffs provided by various ATK buffers, all at +5 full potential. For fairness, Arines (assumed to have no potential) is not factored into this equation because investing Tears in a 3-star would seem unnecessary.

1st Turn 2nd Turn 3rd Turn
H.Lathel 160% 70% 70%
Arines (*no potential) 70% 70% 70%
MC.Teresse 120% 120% 0%

As you can see, H.Lathel is by far the strongest for single turn battles.

For protracted fights such as fiend hunts and guild raids, H.Lathel is often the top choice for an Attack booster. This is because typically there’s just one high-damage turn, known as a “nuke turn”, where you deal the most damage. It’s ideal to utilize H.Lathel during this specific turn. However, if there are two such turns, MC.Teresse might deliver comparable results.

It’s worth mentioning that Teresse holds a distinct edge in specific skirmishes compared to H.Lathel, as Teresse boasts not one but two special battle costumes: MC.Teresse and BA.Teresse. In teams with 5 or fewer chain stacks (low-hit count teams), the cumulative effect of these two Teresse buffs proves more powerful than H.Lathel’s buff on its own.

In order to tackle challenging fiend hunts effectively, it’s optimal to have both H.Lathel and MC.Teresse available (since it’s beneficial to have protective personnel in different groups, thus Lathel could be assigned to one group while Teresse is assigned to another).

How many copies do you need?

H Lathel is a costume that works well even at low levels.

It’s apparent that H.Lathel’s turn 1 buff power is primarily activated at level +2, accounting for a significant portion. This means that H.Lathel offers substantial value with only minimal upgrades required.

In a PVE scenario, reducing H Lathel’s cost from 3 SP to 1 SP isn’t significant. However, for competitive PVP play, it’s crucial that you upgrade Lathel to at least +3. This is because the starting Spirit Points (SP) in PVP are only 5. Consequently, the distinction between a 1 SP and a 2 SP cost is substantial. A 2 SP attack boost isn’t economical in PVP, but a 1 SP buff offers excellent value and can be seamlessly integrated into any physical team configuration.

At levels +4 and +5, the benefits become less substantial. A +4 upgrade increases the damage by just 10%. However, a +5 upgrade doesn’t enhance the initial damage at all; instead, it grants an additional turn with amplified damage. This extra turn significantly impacts high-level fiend hunts and guild raids, but it’s more of a luxury in other situations.

In brief, it’s advisable to upgrade H.Lathel at least to level 2 if you’re on a budget. Level 3 is crucial for participating in Player vs Player (PVP) battles. After reaching level 3, the return on investment isn’t significantly large; level 4 offers an additional 10% ATK, while level 5 provides an extra turn of buffs. Despite this, given that H.Lathel is a popular ATK buffer, even minor enhancements are considered good value for a costume you’ll frequently use for end-game content.

It is highly suggested to consider possible enhancements, as they significantly boost Lathel’s combat abilities.

Conclusion

In terms of boosting Physical Attack (ATK), there’s no character quite like Homunculus Lathel. He’s an essential addition for any player. If you’re a seasoned gamer, chances are you already have him, but if you’re new and your Lathel is not at least +2 level, it would be wise to invest in upgrading him now.
