Well, butter my biscuit and call me impressed! A former bank exec decided to play Robin Hood, but instead of stealing from the rich, she stole from the government. 🏛️💸 Kaylee Ree Lunn, 37, of Holliday, Texas (because of course it’s Texas), pleaded guilty to wire fraud after siphoning over $140,000 from Uncle Sam’s pockets. And no, she didn’t use a lasso-just some illegally obtained customer info and a dash of audacity. 🤠
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office (aka the fun police), Lunn used her VP gig at Prosperity Bank to access customer data without their permission. Because who needs consent when you’re cooking up a fraudulent Paycheck Protection Plan (PPP) loan scheme? 🍳💰 She applied for four PPP loans and a commercial loan, claiming they were for her husband’s businesses. Spoiler alert: they weren’t. 😬
To sweeten the deal, Lunn faked income and payroll expenses like she was writing a romance novel. 📈💔 She then diverted over $276,000 into her own accounts, because why not? In the end, she pocketed $140,000 in fraudulent PPP loans. Guess she forgot the government doesn’t do “buy one, get one free” on prison sentences. 🚔
Speaking of which, Lunn is now facing a 48-month vacation in federal prison, courtesy of Chief Judge Reed C. O’Connor. She’s also on the hook for $573,444 in restitution to the Small Business Administration and $19,000 to Prosperity Bank. Ouch. That’s more than a trip to the ER after a DIY haircut gone wrong. 💇♀️💸
Prosperity Bank, the 55th-largest bank in the U.S. with $38.38 billion in assets, probably wishes they’d hired a better VP. But hey, at least they’re not the ones writing the restitution check. 🏦😅
