Bandai Namco announces Elden Ring live-action movie

These days, you can find adaptations of video games in all corners, and the next one on the list is a highly successful RPG from FromSoftware in 2022: Bandai Namco and A24 are collaborating to create an Elden Ring movie. This live-action production will be penned and directed by Alex Garland.

In 2002, Garland initially gained recognition for penning the script of “28 Days Later”, and more recently, he has served as both writer and director for “Civil War”.

Apart from his expertise, he’s also worked on video games like Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and DmC: Devil May Cry, where he was a co-author and story supervisor respectively, both created by Ninja Theory. Enslaved: Odyssey to the West established a link between him and Bandai Namco, the 2010 action-adventure game’s publisher.

Film studio A24 boasts productions such as Everything Everywhere All at Once, Civil War, Talk to Me, and Hereditary under its belt, demonstrating a distinctive style and reputation. It’s clear that this studio possesses the skill and prestige needed to bring George R.R. Martin and Hidetaka Miyazaki’s creation vividly to the screen.

George R.R. Martin appears to not be part of the movie project, or hasn’t shared any updates yet. Therefore, those who are eagerly waiting for “The Winds of Winter” can take comfort in knowing that this won’t be a reason Martin uses for delaying the release of the next book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series.

Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. and A24 have joined forces with writer-director Alex Garland to transform the globally acclaimed video game Elden Ring into a live-action movie. We’re overjoyed about sharing Elden Ring’s universe with fans in an innovative way, beyond the game itself. Keep an eye out as we embark on this new journey. The road ahead is just getting started,” stated Bandai Namco in their announcement post.
