Bad Bunny Took a Big Risk at Super Bowl Halftime, Producers Say He Refused This Safety Precaution

Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime performance was incredibly bold, and putting it all together wasn’t easy – the production crew had to overcome several obstacles.

A major challenge for the Super Bowl setup was the NFL’s limit of just 25 equipment carts allowed on the grass field at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. This forced the crew to meticulously plan how to get everything in place for the performance without harming the field or causing delays.

Even with the challenges of the show, Bad Bunny performed some remarkable feats. He famously climbed a high utility pole without any safety equipment. According to producer Hamilton, Bad Bunny insisted on doing it without a harness, saying he didn’t need one. This created legal concerns for the production team, but it also allowed them to mount a camera on the pole, providing a unique view of his climb!

Producer Cuddeford shared that Bad Bunny quickly picked up the stunts needed for the project and was remarkably confident. Despite having full safety equipment available, Bad Bunny insisted on performing his own stunts, mastering them in just a few minutes. The crew initially worried during rehearsal, but he effortlessly climbed a pole while still delivering his vocals. Cuddeford described him as incredibly agile and capable of handling anything thrown his way.

A particularly challenging part of the show involved Bad Bunny seemingly falling through the roof of a miniature pink house. This had to be perfectly synchronized with a pre-recorded video of the fall, which was shown on a TV screen within the house itself. The amount of preparation needed to pull this off was considerable, as Cuddeford explained.

The actual stunt of falling through the roof wasn’t overly complicated – they used a trap door and simply pulled it open to let him drop. However, it took a lot of careful planning because we filmed it right before the live broadcast. The family inside the house was watching the Super Bowl on TV, and then, on screen, he appeared to fall through their roof and onto their table. Essentially, we had two separate pre-recorded segments: one showing the scene inside the house, and another of him rehearsing the fall on the field. We then combined these segments and seamlessly transitioned to the live footage of him falling through the roof and kicking open the door.

The halftime show was a success thanks to meticulous planning, creative camera angles, and Bad Bunny’s energetic performance. He confidently pulled off challenging stunts while maintaining excellent vocals and keeping the show flowing seamlessly.
