Beginning this weekend, Babygirl – the 2024 erotic thriller helmed by director Halina Reijn – is accessible for streaming in India on Amazon Prime Video. Previously only available as a premium rental, the film has now become viewable with a standard Amazon Prime Video membership. This means Indian viewers can enjoy watching Babygirl without any additional cost!

In a grand debut, the movie titled “Babygirl” made its first appearance at the 81st Venice International Film Festival on August 30, 2024. It garnered impressive reviews and Nicole Kidman was honored with the esteemed Volpi Cup for Best Actress. Subsequently, it was showcased at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, followed by a theatre release by A24 on December 25.

On a relatively small budget of $20 million, the movie managed to rake in a staggering $64.4 million worldwide and was ranked among the National Board of Review’s Top Ten Films of 2024. Additionally, Nicole Kidman was honored with a Best Actress award from the board, making her year exceptionally successful.

In the movie, Nicole Kidman portrays Romy, a self-assured and commanding CEO whose life unexpectedly shifts when she becomes involved with her younger intern, Samuel (Harris Dickinson). The film candidly delves into a romantic relationship featuring a significant age difference – Romy is 49 years old, while Samuel is only 25.

In reality, there’s a 29-year difference between Kidman and Dickinson. Director Halina Reijn explained that the movie intends to challenge prejudices about gender and age in romantic connections.

Harris Dickinson, recognized for his work in Triangle of Sadness and The Iron Claw, mentioned that the high tension in the movie was amplified due to his minimal prior interactions with Nicole Kidman before shooting started. He believed this allowed their on-screen bond to appear more genuine as they needed to establish trust and connection genuinely during the process. Additionally, the film boasts the performances of emerging talent Sophie Wilde and seasoned actor Antonio Banderas in significant roles.
