The saying goes that patience brings rewards, and that’s especially true for fans of streaming shows these days. It’s become common to wait years for new seasons, and Good Omens fans have had to endure a particularly long wait. Season two ended in the summer of 2023 with a bittersweet moment: the long-awaited kiss between the main characters, Aziraphale and Crowley, was immediately followed by their separation. Aziraphale chose to return to Heaven, leaving Crowley heartbroken and fans devastated. For a while, the show and its devoted audience were stuck in a frustrating period of uncertainty, unsure if they would ever get the happy ending they hoped for.
The season two finale delivered a surprising and emotional twist that felt very different from the rest of the season, which had been heartwarming and focused on romance. No one predicted such a tearful ending for Good Omens. Adding to the drama, fans then had to wait almost six months to find out if the show would be renewed for another season.
The troubles surrounding the end of Good Omens didn’t stop there. Initially, the show was planned to finish with a six-episode third season. However, after accusations of sexual misconduct were made against Neil Gaiman, one of the series’ creators and the co-author of the original book, the future of the show became uncertain. Gaiman has denied these claims, but other projects of his were canceled or put on hold. Production on the final season of Good Omens was temporarily halted, and many feared the show would meet the same fate.
It’s been a wild ride with Good Omens, hasn’t it? When Neil Gaiman left the production, I honestly feared we’d never get closure. But somehow, Prime Video managed to deliver a 90-minute special to wrap things up, and as a fan, I’m just incredibly grateful for that. It might not be exactly what everyone hoped for, but getting an ending at all feels like a small miracle, and that’s really what Good Omens is all about – defying expectations. This show, and especially the relationship between Aziraphale and Crowley, deserves a proper ending, and I’m really hoping they get the happy ever after they’ve earned. It’s a rare thing to see a queer relationship get that chance onscreen, and I’m excited to see how it all plays out.
Bringing this story to the screen was a decades-long journey. The original novel, a collaboration between Neil Gaiman and the beloved Sir Terry Pratchett, first appeared in 1990 and quickly gained a dedicated following. Despite its popularity with fans, it didn’t achieve widespread mainstream success. A movie directed by Terry Gilliam was planned in the 1990s but never materialized, and it wasn’t until the 2019 TV series that audiences finally got to see the characters Aziraphale and Crowley come to life.
It’s amazing the show was renewed for a second season, considering it had already used up all the original story material. Now, we’re getting a third season that will finally reveal the authors’ original ideas for a sequel – that’s a real treat! This all suggests we deserve a happy ending, especially when it matters most. But even more importantly, to end Good Omens with anything less than complete joy and acceptance of all kinds of love would go against everything the show stands for.
At its core, Good Omens is a love story, though it’s technically about an angel (Aziraphale) and a demon (Crowley) tasked with watching over humanity. They end up working together to prevent the end of the world – a world they’ve both grown to love. The show explores many kinds of love: between the angel and demon themselves, between a group of close teenage friends, between a witch and her hunter, and even God’s love for all of creation. Over six thousand years, Aziraphale and Crowley have become deeply connected, and secretly long for each other.

It’s always been clear that Crowley and Aziraphale care deeply for each other, and fans have long hoped the show would officially recognize their relationship. The Prime Video series has done just that, in a way the original 1990s novel couldn’t. Where the book hinted at their connection, the series openly shows how much they mean to each other. The incredible chemistry between actors Michael Sheen and David Tennant also helps, bringing a believable, centuries-long connection to every scene. You see it in longing looks, thoughtful gifts, how they rely on each other, shared possessions, dramatic saves, and even moments of elegant dancing.
As a fan, I’d say this show is the ultimate romantic comedy. It leans into everything you love about the genre – familiar themes, little nods to other stories, and a plot that feels both comfortable and exciting. It really highlights the direction Crowley and Aziraphale’s relationship is heading, and it perfectly captures what the whole series is about. For me, it’s about how powerful love can be – it’s not just something nice, it actually changes you, makes you a better person. It’s how we grow, and how we make the world a better place too. It feels like the show is saying love is the most amazing gift, and ultimately, it’s love that will save us all.
Most shows would handle this kind of story in a way that feels forced and preachy, potentially alienating viewers from all backgrounds. But Good Omens is different – it’s genuinely warm and optimistic, making it hard not to connect with its message. The show creates a world we want to believe in, where even lifelong enemies can find love, forgiveness is always within reach, and faith ultimately delivers on its promises.

The season two finale makes it clear that Crowley and Aziraphale’s story isn’t over. Their temporary separation feels like a classic setup – a chance for them to confront their personal issues and ultimately reunite with a stronger connection. Given the shorter length of the final season, the show probably won’t have time to fully explore all its storylines, but that’s alright. The core relationship between Crowley and Aziraphale is what viewers are really invested in, and that’s what matters most. Any extra plot developments are just a welcome addition.
Ultimately, we’re all hoping for a powerful message: even during the darkest times, whether in stories or in real life, hope and love can prevail. Crowley and Aziraphale are meant to be together, and fans deserve to see them finally admit their feelings—perhaps with a cozy little cottage in the countryside.
