Axie Infinity Creator Cuts Jobs but Promises a Bold Comeback

As a long-time player and follower of Axie Infinity, this recent development has certainly caught my attention. The gaming landscape is dynamic, and companies must adapt to thrive – a lesson I learned when I switched from Atari to Nintendo back in the day!

Sky Mavis, creators of ‘Axie Infinity’, have shared that they’ll be letting go of approximately 21% of their team members as part of a strategic initiative aimed at optimizing their operations and concentrating on essential products.

Nguyen Thanh Trung, both co-founder and CEO, underscored the layoffs are not a response to financial instability but rather a strategic move to prepare the company for future expansion. He clarified that this choice is crucial for maintaining the company’s adaptability as it concentrates on its primary objectives set for 2025 and beyond.

As a dedicated gamer immersed in the digital universe of gaming, I’m all in on our unwavering dedication to the Web3 ecosystem. Sky Mavis is steadfast in its pursuit to refine and expand ‘Axie Infinity’, as well as other innovative offerings within the Ronin network. We’re not just playing games here; we’re shaping the future of gaming together.

21% of Sky Mavis’s workforce, which primarily contributes to the development of the blockchain game Axie Infinity, has been notified that they will be leaving the company. With an approximate total of 250 employees worldwide, this translates to around 53 team members being affected by the decision.

After the announcement, the price of Axie Infinity’s internal token, AXS, initially dropped but then rebounded. This trend underscores the need for blockchain gaming firms to adjust to the changing market conditions, maintain fiscal viability, and keep their products current.
