Upon completing the game “Avowed,” I delved into exploring the various scenarios for the ending slides and was astounded by the number of variations. The most difficult and obscure ending requires a dedication throughout the entire game, leaving the Living Lands in their harshest condition while all your allies harbor intense disdain towards you. (Spoiler alert: This pertains to the endings of Avowed.)
In the game Avowed, it is hinted that you can choose to align with Lödwyn, who is at odds with both Kreia and Legate Lanius. Lödwyn and her steel-wielding paladins are fanatical in their beliefs. While you don’t get locked out of the Steel Garrote ending by significant choices, it may not work out favorably for you if your actions haven’t been consistently aligned with their ideology.
If you frequently displeased Lödwyn by aligning with other factions instead of her own, she’d reward you as a traitor before the movie ends: She beheads you first, and then summarizes the final scene slides where she conquers the continent without your involvement.
On YouTube, Big Dan Gaming offers a walkthrough for siding with Lödwyn and avoiding an untimely demise before the final act, thereby earning the “Tyranny” achievement, which only 0.2% of Steam players have achieved so far. Essentially, you should consistently favor Aedyr, Lödwyn, or oppose Sapadal at critical junctures throughout the main narrative. The crucial decisions that will shape your path are:
1. Supporting Aedyr and Lödwyn’s cause in the political arena.
2. Choosing dialogues and actions that show allegiance to Lödwyn during key conversations.
3. Making choices that undermine Sapadal’s influence wherever possible.
- Kill Ygwulf in Paradis.
- Let the Steel Garrote burn Fior.
- Let Kostya destroy Solace Keep.
- Kill Sapadal in the Garden.
If you manage to win Lödwyn’s favor before aligning with the Steel Garrote, she bestows knighthood upon you instead of eliminating you at the game’s end – I hope it proves beneficial to you: You find yourself isolated as all your companions reject this path, and the closing montage leaves no doubt that Lödwyn’s vision for the Living Lands is a symbol of oppression, forever crushing the will of its inhabitants.
In the game Avowed, your decisions truly matter, making it more than just the end for me – it serves as an exceptional illustration of this concept. Obsidian’s latest release shares a similar level of reactive writing with Baldur’s Gate 3, allowing you to complete quests in any order without them breaking and characters referencing even minor choices and character background details. However, Avowed lags slightly behind in terms of systemic interactions, and I must admit that no game I’ve played has quite as many accommodations for edge cases as Baldur’s Gate 3.
I found the storytelling in Avowed quite enjoyable, and it offers a unique viewpoint on the world of Eora from Pillars of Eternity, which adds intrigue. There’s a possibility we might revisit this game again: Project director Carrie Patel hinted that Obsidian Entertainment may consider creating sequels or additional content in the future.
1. Unique Weapons: Secure these as soon as possible
2. Totem of Rightful Rulership: Gather all its fragments
3. Intimidating Feline Armor: Solve the treasure map puzzle
4. Kai Relationship: Persevere and grow together
5. Avowed Ygwulf: Strategies for dealing with the assassin
